Will I be leaving alot of power on the table with 1-3/4" 3" collector BBK long tubes with 2" bolt pattern and the welds & collector cleaned up compared to 1-7/8" Kooks with 3.5" colloctor and 3" bolt pattern?

On a N/A 408W with 10.5 cr, AFR 205's, Vic Jr, custom cam, Prosystem carb, 5 speed car, 6800 max rpm.

I all ready have the BBK's and am trying to keep cost under control on this build. But if it will cost me big power then I will upgrade. Thanks.

I really dont think that you are gonna lose that much power running the 1 3/4 headers on your car. I have a 427 in mine and am actually taking the 2" hooker super comps off and getting a pair of 1.75" primary headers. The hookers actually choke off more through the adapter plates than i can see the smaller primary headers without adapter plates ever doing!

One of the issues I was concerned about was the 2" bolt pattern on the BBK's was enough to choke of the exhaust ports on my AFR 185's never mind the larger 205's.

I cut and grind the collector open to the size of the mid pipe.

I can't justify spending big $ on headers for mine.

I did this and cleaned up the welds on the inside of the headers openings. I did not read of anyone doing this before I tried it it just looked very restrictive. I later found out it was very common thing to do.

Use high temp copper RTV. The orange/gold stuff. It works good for me between the header and adapter plates.

I use a 2" header on my 408, but it is just because its what I got with the motor. A 1 3/4 or 1 7/8 would probably make more power in my application.

Personally I don't think you are leaving much on the table with the 1 3/4 tubes...

I think the restriction is at the flange where they pinch it to fit the narrow bolt pattern.

I went from mac's to Accufab's and the wide pattern. Definately the right move.
