Well Ive been loosing coolant for the last week or so. I checked for leaks but only found a very small puddle in the middle right sid e of underneath engne. This continued with me filling the overeflow bottle every other day. Then tonite I noticed when i got home from doing errands something was smoking on the passenger side. Looked like the ac acuumulater was smoking but then I saw it was coming from below that about a foot down on the firewall(passenger side). There is an opening which either was missing a hose or it is a drainage hole??? Anyways thats where my leak is coming from. It was dripping onto my exhaust pipe causeing the smoking and dripping onto the undercarriage wherer it would dry up. What do think is the problem??? Thanks

Sounds like the heater core :curses:

Yep, you've got a leaking heater core! PITA job to replace!

Good luck..

By the way, don't even think of having a shop do it because they will charge 6+ hours!!!

Make sure it is not just one of the hoses/hose connection leaking before you attempt to move forward with a fair sized project.

Most times when a heater core is leaking, it does so inside the cabin and not at the engine side of the firewall.

bronze is correct. this happened when i put a trickflow intake on my old 91 gt. i thought it was a heater core as well. it was the hose. check the hoses that run off of the manifold to the firewall first.

Bypassed it for now. The hoses looked fine ,the only place I coulld find it leaking was out of the firewall drain spot. I guess Ill just go with out my heater . A dash removal is pricey. Hopefully the bypass works and solves the problem. Thanks again for the help . Later

its easy just time consumeing, have to take out the dash and center console, then if you dont wana take the ac unit out(inside the dash) you have to get a weird lookn screwdriver to get the back screw out of the heater core box.. ita a pain.. make sure you get a "good" heater core not a cheep ass $20 unit, 50resto i hear makes a quallity one, o ya , when u put it in make sure you put a type of sylicone on the edges of the lef heater core.. its kinda funny how it just sets in their with no mounts . i wish they made them like the 86- cars (you just pull that damn heater core out of the glovebox)

I wish my '83 was that easy. That's only on the non-A/C models. Those with A/C still have to pull the dash or cut the heater box.

Welcome to the club of the green puddle of death called a leaking heater core. Look above the leak you see a roundish rubber piece with a short hose on the firewall. If that is where the leak is coming from your an offical member. Try this link as it has some good pics. Plan on a few hours.
