I have put this new setup to the test consisting of a new LMR water pump, sve 3 row radiator, lmr dual electric fans, and their overflow tank. The car still had the brass stock single row unit if you can believe it with the stock style fan setup. Car is a 306 with svo heads, f cam, Holley terminator x, accufab 70mm tb, intake, downs upper and gt40 lower, full exhaust etc. the stock setup this car would run very hot at idle, too hot that it would start to get me paranoid 😅. I’ve had temps go to 223°. It gets hot here and very humid in Long Island NY and I wanted it to run cooler. Installed everything and flushed the block. Got everything installed and filled with amsoil coolant and additive. I have a 180° t stat in the car and set fans to come on at 185 and off at 180. If anyone thinks I should change this please advise which is the question I have. I can idle this car now all day long without issue. Fans come on at 185 and might reach 187 while sitting and then she drops right down. Before the only way to get it to drop was by going 60 mph or more 🤣. For the money on an NA setup this works extremely well for the cash. Now I’m gonna drive and enjoy the car for awhile until it’s time for paint, fuel system upgrade, 363, and tkx 600. I’ll do some suspension mods along the way and some other stuff. I don’t know about any of you guys but I love working on my car. I really do enjoy it and never did really enjoy turning a wrench on a car as much as this one.

I will answer your question with another question. Where is the temperature probe that controls the fans?

As far as the 185 fans on, 180 fans off. It should work. My only concern is you are not getting up to the 195 range the ECU looks for (stock T-stat is 192-197 depending on brand). I have a 205 fans on, 185 fans off temp sender with no issue. When moving at 40+ mph my fans never come on. At idle it will go up to the 205 and come down with the fans. I have a 180 t-stat as well.

Well, OEM t stat is an around 195. I have my contour fans on at 205, off at 195 and my high fan on at 215 and off at 205. You’d be surprised at the temps in which an EFI engine should run at. 185 is too cold.
200-205 degrees is not hot at all.

Also, if you search this topic, you’ll have plenty of reading material. This has been covered over and over.

I think you need to bump your temps up a little.
If you have your 'off' temp same as your t-stat, fan will run longer, possibly all the time once up to temp since t-stat controls minimum temp.

I think typically the on temp is about 15-20 degrees higher than the t-stat rating and then off about 10 degrees lower than on temp.
So, 180 t-stat = On @ 200, off at 190, or something in that range.

you are 100% correct! Took the car out for a long ride. During the cooler months I’ve seen temps in the 170’s while cruising at 60-70 mph but in this weather that just ain’t gonna happen. With the setting of 185 on and 180 off, it’s difficult to achieve causing fans to always be on. I’m gonna raise the on and off in a few minutes and see how it works. Best thing about the Holley is I can play with these settings with no issues 🥳.
