The substance looks like old blackish brown oil...smells of gas. Car has been in garage for 3 days and only leaked 3 quarter sized drops. Some is on the tank, some is on the tail pipe. Anyone know what this could be?
leaking something around the gas tank on the drivers side???

You sure it's not coming from an oil pan gasket leak? I coated the back of one of my old cars like that and it wasn't dripping from anywhere near the oil pan
Your gas tank is starting to leak from the top. When gas dries, what's left is what you're seeing. Drop the tank, preferably once you've driven it enough to lower the level and get it repaired or replace it.
Def not the oil pan...i wuz hoping it was not the gas tank but thats the first thing i thought bcuz the hoses are all on passenger side. O well we will see this weekend.
If I remember correctly there is a black rubber insulator that is glued to the tank to keep it from hitting the mounting points on the car. If you're leaking fuel from anywhere in the tank area it could be melting this rubber and that's what you're seeing.
I looked at it a little bit more today...its leaking from the seam/flange in the middle part of the tank. Anyone got any advise on what kind of sealer to use?
My gas tank is solid as a rock...and still had that pin hole in the seam. i just think its poor design/workman ship. Two stamped pieces of metal sandwiched together with a sketchy weld/seam.....haha.
