Is The Vortech Maxflow Too Much?

Is the vortech maxflow too much of a bypass valve for a vortech s trim with only 10psi or should I just stick with the stock bosch one since I am only pushing 10psi?

Another very well spoken post.

IMO the Maxflow is about done @ 13psi. I almost blow the thing out of my piping at 16psi. Upgrading to a Mondo or BV next spring.

While Swinerton & Cobraiistang95 are swingin it out I'll just add this... I'm running a Maxflow @ 10psi & if you do opt for the Maxflow, keep in mind that you're going to have to do some minor fab work & creative plumbing bc it's not a plug n play like the Bosch.

I felt I needed to chime in on this. My bypass is probably FAR too big for my setup. I have a stock long block 302, with a S-trim and a few bolt ons, full exhaust, etc. I bought this kit used. It came with a mondo bypass and race discharge pipe. I had this running and I didn't have any issues. Don't have a boost gauge, lol but it was a 7" crank and 3.12" blower. So about 10 - 12lbs I guess.

I will toss my info on my personal experience...

When you add a large FMIC to the mix which I have the stock bosch bypass freaks out like a little bitch at 1800-2000RPM and will flutter like a bitch. Keep in mind my blower is making probably 10-11lbs pre intercooler but is only reading 9.1 at peak according to the dyno at Kurgans. When you add the intercooler the amount of air moving through the system almost triples, and while the stock bosch worked just fine pre intercooler the minute you put one on watch what happens. It just cannot flow enough air when the throttle is barely open at cruising rpm. I have run two stockers one before and after the intercooler all that did was raise the RPM range from 1800-2000rpm to 2600-3000rpm but did the exact same thing.

Every single person with a FMIC said run a maxflow and you will solve 99% of all the ####ty driving I have gotten so far. I just bought mine and am in the process of putting it on but it just proves that sometimes low boosted cars can max out a bosch valve, and sometimes cars with lots of boost can run just fine with it. It all depends on what kind of closed loop air system you have and what CFM needs to escape when the throttle gets snapped shut.

I had a Maxflow (Mini-race) on my 04... S-trim @ 14psi w/ a Paxton FMIC. the valve was way too small, and caused all sorts of drivability problems. I was going to go with a big red, but decided to part the whole thing out, LOL. IMO, the stock Bosch cannot move enough air at anything over 10 psi. sure, it's "good" to 14, but it cannot support the volume of air that needs to bypass at anything over 10. right now, I have a non-IC Novi 1000 @ 10psi, with the "upgraded TT" Bosch valve, and it's too small - my MAF is getting backwash and I get a bit of surge. I'm going to be upgrading to a Mini-race this winter.

nobody asked the OP if he has an FMIC... that's going to make more af a difference than the boost he's seeing. or even why the question is being asked. is there a drivability problem?

just sayin'...

you cant have too much valve..

I run the Anderson Intake Kit on my Coupe with a Mondo Bypass valve and have absolutely NO problems whatsoever with it.All a Bypass valve does is Recirculate unused pressurised Boost when under part throttle back into the Intake pipe and when under full Deceleration IE letting off the gas when the throttle plate fully closes. Basically all it does is Protect the blower so Like Bob stated above Why could you go too big?Your combo may not NEED a huge Bypass valve but if you have a big valve its not going to hurt a thing..

Def need a bigger one I'm pushing right at 10psi with vortex v1 s-trim 2.85 pulley and 6.87 crank with FMIC it flutters like a logo anything from 1800 above. It's so annoying I put it in neutral and slow down to under 180p Roma Def not enough flow for 10psi through a intercooler with pmas blow thru maf and 3 in piping
