So the old question of HV vs Standard oil pumps. I have a 393w stroker w a stock 351w block. I'm running .0030" main clearances and .0025" rod clearances. I currently have the frpp 5qt pan and standard volume oil pump, but now I'm starting to double think my oiling system. Would it be better to run the high volume and 7qt pan w my larger clearances? Id rather get it figured out while the motors on the stand, an before I starve the bearings when the motor gets started

Your bearing clearances are not loose. You are using 351 rods so the side clearance should be close to stock. I have the same setup with a std pump. Get an ARP oil drive shaft and drill the oil galley plug .030 to provide good oil to the cam gear. Also dont turn over 6500 rpms. A hv pump wont let you rev higher before the main caps start walking. Also a stud girdle wont help it either. Get a good oil pan and set the pick up 1/4" from the bottom of the pan and you will be good to go.

Never know the width of the crank journals. Some cranks you will end up with .025-.030 side to side, others .010 or less.

20520 pan and pickup, M83 and move on

I like the canton pans - never had issues getting them to seal. I've had more problems with budget priced fabricated pans (i.e. the above mentioned moroso) with oil leaks around the rear main cap. Liberal RTV use is mandatory with these pans even if they appear to trial fit ok. Very little issues so far with the pans built from stock sheet metal cores, unless they were cheap knockoffs.

Ive had to use RTV on the canton pan to get it to seal also. The only reason i was leery of moroso was that ive bought tools from them that i wasnt overly impressed with the quality. The billet end rail is a great selling point to me and i will give them a shot. I am not really super impressed with the quality of the canton stuff either. These days, it seems like most companies dont care about building quality parts that fit.
