I used mothers aluminum polish on mine. They will come up like chrome if you spend enough time on them. Lots of time! I used a buffing wheel but some parts you must do by hand. And you have to be careful with the buffing wheel as you can over heat the wheel and you'll get a purplish spot on the wheel.

It will be much easier if you find an older set of wheels that do not have the clear coating on them. I believe from 87 up they were all clear coated. If not you will have to remove the clear coating first. Have fun!

Any tips for removing the clearcoat? Just sand it off?

I used a medium grit sand paper w/water attached to a drill on the clearcoat it's like wet sanding and then Mothers polish and a buffing pad to make it shine! This was on a 89 coupe it's time consuming but it does look good and just be prepared to continue polishing.....Also it was this stuff that was called Quator pronounced water it's this pink cotton candy looking stuff that i reccommend for periodic touch-up when you wash the car...Hope this helps!

just don't dry sand them cause then you'll be left with scratches that will make polishing them to a shine hell!

My Ex's dad used some paint remover to remove the clear coat off of his stock Chevy wheels then used a rotary polisher to polish them up... looks great!.. if you keep a good coat of polish on there, don't allow the brake dust to bake on the wheels and never wash the wheels when they are hot, they should stay shiny shiny shiny forever!!!!
