I sold my 418 with a super vic to a lady in Minnesota for her 68 Cougar, I don't believe she had to cut the hood. Sent her that question to verify, when I hear back I'll let you know.
She's got a 1" spacer under the carb, and 14x3 filter that sticks halfway out of the hood. I'll load pics up later tonight, can't do it here at work,( gubinment computer )
That might be a 14x4 air cleaner, so maybe would fit in your case, with a drop base and no spacer. I ran a stealth on my 351 LTD wagon, just used a truck air cleaner so it looked stock, but did clear the stock hood.
Do some quick research on RonMorris engine mounts. I use them in my 65 and they drop the engine by half an inch or better.
