They're Holley Systemax heads, comparable in design to older Twisted Wedges and known for touchy geometry and short-lived valve guides when it wasn't set perfectly.

Holley used an inline valve configuration, not a rotated valve.

The castings could be Brodix or Buddy Bar.

Valve angles were 17 or 20 degree depending on the series.

The only guide issues were due to stupid people installing them without checking valvetrain geometry. That is a possibility with any cylinder head.

I've done quite a few of these Holley heads and they do work well with modern upgrades.

 

The ones with issues were the pedestal mount heads.

 

So I should replace the valve guides before I run them? Gonna pull them off and swap them on the motor I'm currently running... Was curious about the specs also. Is that info available anywhere?

Here's a couple of things I had bookmarked, not sure how accurate they are seem to have conflicting numbers.
I also have a set of those heads I bought used from another member on here. When I DIY cc'd mine they came out 60-61cc so maybe the second link is more accurate. Waiting to install them until I'm done gathering parts for a stroker build.

I'm on a budget and shipping from Hawaii is a waste of money. Some suggestions on how to get them to work best as is would be helpful tho. I intend to put these on a stock explorer block with a B-cam and a set of 1.7 rr. And it's carbureted...

I'm one of the stupid ones that had the pedestal heads and I knew ones who had the pedestal twisted wedges that were stupid so their guides went bad.

 

I have the full systemax 2 kit, heads work pretty well, I thing it's a 165cc with with 2.02/1.6 valves. But I could be wrong it's been a long time since I looked it up. The systemax 2 are stud mount and the original ones were pedestal. Your best bet is to call Holley and give them the part number and they'll give you specs.

Oh and do yourself a favor and get a custom grind.

They are the stud mounted ones. What's the best way to inquire with Ed? I'm not in a huge hurry so ill entertain the idea. Realistically it would just make sense to have the work done on island. But experience with these specific heads has value too.

Another question. These heads are for my twin turbo project and I'm heavily considering swapping my 302 for a 351W. Will these Holley heads bolt onto a 351W block without any modifications?

 

The set I had came with 7/16 head bolt holes so if yours are the same you'll need to drill them out to accept the 351's 1/2 head bolt holes. Any machine shop should be able to do it for not much $.

 

I should have a half inch bolt. Ill see if it fits. Thanks
