What is the overall size difference between the two. Anyone running the gt45 80mm on a foxbody. Looking to buy one but looking for suggestions first? How hard is it to modify a 3.5" downpipe to work with 4" on the gt45 80mm?

if your only looking for 650hp, the GT45R is much too big. Thats a 1200hp turbo. You need a GT42 or GT42R. The GT42 is a lot easier to fit in the engine bay and works a lot better with your 3.5" down pipe. The GT45R needs at least a 4" down pipe or you'll likely run into back pressure issues.

As far as the comparison between the ebay GT45 and a real Garrett GT4508R. There really is no comparison. The ebay version is just a basic 70mm journal bearing with a ported shroud and divided t4 housing. Its made to look similar to a real one but is smaller and doesn't perform the same at all. A real one only comes as 80mm with dual ball bearings. The compressor cover is large frame and the whole turbo is v-banded. Its a big turbo, similar to the size of a GT47 series. The GT4508R uses an 87mm turbine wheel and 4" outlet. Those are two completely different turbos.

I have a turbonetics t series 76mm on my 383 w/ the .96 hot side and I love it. For being a street truck 90% of the time it's spools instantly and you can be in the power all of the time.If that's your goal the tc 78 would be another great choice and turbonetics make great units. 650rwhp will not be a problem.I think it would be a better choice than the gt turbo. Just my opinion.

Physicaly, there is no difference inbetween the 74/80/88mm versions. Its all in the wheel. I have a GT45-88 on my 410W and it is the same as the GT4202 that was on it. I got my GT45-88 from VSracing, a sponser on turbomustangs.com. Id go there before CXracing.

Note: My GT45-88 has a T4i flange on it. I had to enlong the holes on the exhaust housing to fit a T4 flange. Just something to be aware of.

Ummm, no there is not. Side by side there are identical. Want to know how I know? I have both...... Uses the same Discharge and Downpipe Flanges as the GT4202.

And yes, there is an 88mm. I mean, I do own one.

How you like them apples?

Mww460 - I run a Custom Ponydown B series Hotside with a Custom 4" Downpipe. I don't have a pic of it installed, but for sake on LS1kiler calling my a liar, here is a vid of it installed and running:

The downpipe on my 76mm is 3". I know some would say that's small, but that's the flange size of the turbo. For what I use the truck for, which is 85-90% street and some fri. night and track rentals it's fine.Isn't hurting me yet.

Yeah, and?

He didn't ask for a GT4508R, he asked about a GT45-88 ebay turbo, which is what I have. Try reading Post #6.

But hey, someone wants to spend $2700 on a "real" turbo, go right ahead. These "knockoffs" have been proven time and time again to make power.

In the op it says gt45, nothing about Chinese. When somebody tells me they have a gt45 I assume we're talking about authentic stuff here. If a Chinese turbo is labeled gt45 it's not a real gt45 and shouldn't be referred to as such. The real gt4508r turbos are much bigger, more reliable, quicker spooling and make more power. You show a real gt4202 in the picture on the left but your comparing it to that eBay gt45 should give you an idea about the size difference of real Garrett stuff. There's a reason they cost $2700
