Looking to convert from my 5 speed to an AOD. These are the two companies I have contacted for estimates. Looking for your opinions. My car is in my signature.

What Lentech said:
If you mustang is a limited street car with possible further power increases then I recommend the Strip Terminator @ $3295. If you are going to the track with slicks you will likely want the full manual transbrake option @ $400. We have a 9.5” converter with aluminum stator and very thick forged front cover for $845 that will handle up to 900 hp. You will need a 2step rev limiter with a transbrake.

As far as other install items required we don’t make any of our own accessories or specific swap kits for your fox mustang but as I’m sure your aware they can be sourced from many local suppliers. You will need to change your slip yoke to a 28 spline t-5 type and your cross member and mount will work. If you place an order with Lentech I am certainly willing to make further detailed recommendations.

What Freddie Brown said:
Thank you for your interest in our transmissions based on the power your car is making we would recommend our full manual Pro Street/Strip 4STB for your 1991 Mustang. Our 4STB does not require a TV cable.

The total package price with converter will run you $4590.00 shipping included.

Here is what you will be getting.

300M input shaft
Competitiion Hi flow Manual Valvebody & high pressure regulator
HD Intermediate Mechanical Diode Assembly
Hi performance clutch packs & high energy band
Large servo Assembly
Modified Front Pump Assembly with Teflon Rings
Stamp Steel Drum
OD relay controller
Dip stick & tube
Cooler
Braided cooling lines with fittings
HD Spicer Yoke C-4
Quarter Stick Shifter
10" Street Strip Converter

The list is complete of parts you would need. Transbrake is an option we can add its an additional $210.00 and yes its electronically activated.

FB everyday for AOD. Fred offers a plastic barrel for shipping which makes the shipping
very safe. I personally had great success with PTC for converters.

Lentech is located in Canada. Shipping back for any reason could get expensive.
Also there input shafts are historically weak. They will not use a 300m material.

Another option is Silverfox transmissions. I'm using one of his valve bodies in my 4R and it's great. He also helped me get all the parts I needed to build the tranny I have in my car right now. Just curious if you've thought about building it yourself? You'd save about $1500-2000 from the prices you listed. Here is a link to Silverfox transmissions.

Dan at Silverfox seems very knowledgeable with the AODs. However I personally would pick a builder with a stellar reputation and a in house tranny dyno. Yes some things could be air checked, but the dyno allows to throughly inspect there work. Also I hate to have any leaks and a dyno will help to again check there work.

Did this same due dillegence you are doing and I ended up with the FB AOD. I had the lentech in my car, they were complete douches about "going through my current" AOD and just said sorry you need to buy ALL new, including another valvebody. FB Said send me what you have and we will go through it only replacing what you need and upgrading you to the FB valvebody.

So far the FB AOD has held fine at 820rwhp, the shifts are firm but not overly whiplash like the Lentech. I felt like going into reverse with the lentech I needed to brace myself with a 5pt harness. Why is that even necessary I always thought.. The FB AOD drives better than stock and harnesses my 820rwhp.

Also coupled mine with the high-end UCC converter from Lenny.

Another vote for Freddy brown here. I went through several aod transmissions before settling on his. Been hitting it hard for 2 years now with no problem at all. They are great guys to talk to and will answer any and all your questions. Give them a call they will put your mind to ease. Also the barrel is great shipping method. Such that I decided to pay for the barrel in the event that I need the trans freshened up and upgraded I have it on hand to ship back. Fantastic turn around also btw. I sent them my aod that had been heavily modified and they made it right.
