Ford Racing 65mm throttle body

I’m looking for a 65mm tb for my explorer intake and I came across a fellow selling what he says is a Ford Racing 65mm TB that will work with the explorer intake on a foxbody engine. Looks like egr spacer comes with it too.
I’ve never heard of this being available....anyone have any info?

Yeah its been available for years.

*Special Note*
A few threads back stated you wanted to retain the egr system.If thats the case,you'll need a tubular gt40,Cobra gt40 or 95-97.5 Explorer gt40 intake.Why??These three intakes came with internal egr passages,but the 97.5-01 Explorer didnt.If the intake you bought is the 97.5-01 year model and you absolutely have to run the egr valve,you'll have to sell your intake and buy one of the others.Youll also have to drill & tap the lower intake for the egr spacer return hose fitting.The intake,at the number 5 runner,will also need to be drilled/tapped for the act sensor,if it isnt done yet.If the intake you bought came with that ugly curved elbow,just remove it and mount the fms 65mm throttle body and egr spacer to the intake.The egr spacer is what the throttle cable & egr valve will be attached to.The throttle bore on the gt40 upper intake is 67-69mm in diameter,so a 65mm tb & spacer are the perfect size.Check the lower intake before you install it,to make sure the larger baffle is in place.If the smaller baffle is installed instead,the intake will suck alot of oil through the pcv valve and contaminate the upper intake and the runners.If the tb is really a 65mm piece,it should measure 2.56" in diameter.

Are you saying all the tb's off the Explorer are probably Ford Racing units with a Foxbody shaft or are you saying the Ford Racing tb that MX8 bought is probably an Explorer tb with Foxbody shaft??

Its easy enough to just look for the presence of a crankcase vent elbow on the tb,which makes it the earlier one,but by earlier ones,do you mean the tb's off the 95-97.5 or a different year range??

Will swapping the entire shaft to a Foxbody shaft prevent you from having to modify the Explorer shaft linkage to mate with a Foxbody throttle cable??If yes,that seems like the easier route to take than modification.

Yes, but you need to modify the fox shaft slightly, as it's sized for the smaller 60mm blade

Pretty easy to remove the material to fit the larger 65mm blade.

After you do that, everything else is easy.

One thing to pay attention to is that there are TWO style of explorer TB's. The main difference is the TPS sensor mount. The later ones have a much taller mount that won't accept the mustang tps. The early ones have a compatible TPS mount. Easy way to tell them apart is the typical valve cover vent tube. The early TB's have it facing backwards (easy to flip around) while the later ones with the taller TPS mounts don't have one at all.

Yeah Ive got a 70mm Accufab myself,but for someone with a budget build that wants to save a lil bit to put towards other mods,the Explorer tb is a good choice,especially considering the small benefit a tb will give.Other brands of tb's do look better than the Explorer,but thats nothing that a good polishing job wouldn't take care of.If you can get an aftermarket tb for cheap though,theres nothing wrong with that,especially if it looks better than the Explorer.If I would've known about the Explorer tb years ago,I probably would have bought it instead to save a couple hundred bucks.

When I ran one back in the day, all I did was grind the swedged area of the shaft off the throttle arm on both to release the throttle arms, then put the fox arm on the explorer tb and tacked it into place (it was a long time ago, I think my brother put 3 small mig tacks on it - today I'd do tig tacks). Looked good and worked great. I even back cut the shaft.

I got a tiny TB off of an 86 to rob the parts off of even removed the tube to keep the crack case vent. I did the same as the others grind and weld on the mustang arm
