Last night at Houston Raceway Park we were particularly interested in seeing what kind of time a brand new 2011 5.0 Mustang that was in line was going to run. The car was 3 weeks old & still had un-faded paper plates on it.

When he got up to the starting line we realized that the driver was Richard Lelsz, the owner of Strictly Performance (which told me the car had to be heavily modified & would be very fast.)

He ran a very smooth, almost-slow-looking pass, but it wasn’t. He ran a 9.96 @ 137mph with a 1.4 60’ time.

It was the first 9-second pass ever made in a new 5.0 Mustang.

We went to congratulate him & look at the car. He had already phoned Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords magazine to tell them about the time. They made some kind of deal with him to not pop the hood or tell anyone what was done to it until the article in the magazine comes out.

Any credit for doing that with an '11, is immediately lost and then some with that music. It would be bad enough if it was a background track, but to have no actual car audio and instead play THAT. Epic fail.

BTW. Congratulations on both.

Had some help for sure, he went 110 mph in the 1/8th he picked up ruffly 27 mph in the back half..its a blower car or turbo. N/A car will normally run 22-25 in the back depending on the build.

I hate rap but the guys said the music was a dude that use to watch them race another mustang, and now he's dead and they are paying respects to him, either way car is bada$$!!!!!!!!!! i agree the weight of no safety equipment takes from a legit 9 second pass but on the street that car is gonna win some money!!!!

That's because ya'll dont know bout Fat Pat.....it's a Texas Thang!

More than likely the music was played instead of the actual car audio to keep people guessing of the power adder used.....seems to be working. I didn't see a purge but who knows.

A 9sec pass is a 9sec pass. Let's not mask the achievement at hand with senseless stipulations.

I don't like the music either but they put the video on youtube as soon as they got back to the pits with the time slip & the PC guy said he put the music instead of the actual audio on purpose.. The guys wouldn't say what was done to it because MMFF wanted to break it to the world.
I see the point about the weight of a cage adding more than 4/100ths but they still ran a 9. I'm in no way affiliated with them but if it was mine I'd sure feel cheapened if my time, which I was so proud of, was discounted simply because it wasn't legal.
I certainly wouldn't present it that way: "I ran a 9, but just barely...& I wouldn't have if I was following the rules." Not at all; I'd say exactly what all of us have done in the past when we weren't legal (& anyone who's been at it for a while has done this): I'd tech in, make one pass, & when I pulled up to collect the slip I'd say, "I know" before they could say, "No soup for you!"

Here are the pix I, "korablue", & his son took about 5 minutes after the pass.

The atmosphere at the track afterwards was very nostalgic. All the Mustang freaks were coming by to congratulate them, all so happy that a new 5.0 was already in the 9's.
I love it.

sounds like a 200shot minimum. probably 250

Did you say he called MM&FF to tell them of his "achievement"? I'm sorry but juicing a brand new car to make it run a number without the proper safety equipment is flat out foolish. Is he too cheap to advertise or what? Nothing like tooting your own horn! A 9 second (barely) nitrous car is **not that big of deal**.

When you are first to do it with a new model it is absolutely an achievement no matter how you do it... he laid down a nine.... @ at HRP no less

the only peckerheads I have heard bitching have been working on their cars for years and are not in the tens yet:rolleyes: boo hoo no cage, boo hoo not stock trans... boo hoo whine whine.

and no one likes on of H-town's finest??... Fat Pat

some tards on htownracing have been whining... with the majority of people being impressed... I fall into the impressed category:cool:

We discussed this on one of my local forums. My feelings are:

Not really. The new "trend" seems to be "first to do xxxx with a 2011 Mustang"

Can't wait to see the "First 2011 Mustang on 45" Spinning gold dipped wheels"

or

"First Mustang to run 6's with 600" Twin 101mm turbos"

I liked the first "first" where they were doing basically what the average Joe could have done in a year or so. Now we're just pushing it because it's a fad.

Like many people are going to run out and buy a 2011 car and throw a C4 in it with the biggest N20 setup they can find? Yeah that's almost realistic.
