no shops repair eecs. you have to send them out.

 

I have started repairing them, just repaired mine, three burned traces. I have also put together a bench testing box, if local I can hook your vehicle to the ford eec-iv monitor which allows me to look at each input/output on the 60 pin connector to verify proper function. In the case of my ecm, car ran with driveability issues I could not tune out with binary editor. . .when I opened the ecm, I discover one of the caps leaked all over the board and created an open on the spout circuit, seriously damaged the vpwr circuit, and shorted the resistor array. While the car started and ran, my new 11:1 compession 331 with afr 195s, and ultradyne/bullet cam .588" 231 deg@ .050" would pnly push car to 95 mph in1/4 mile, it wasn't advancing timing. These ecms are at the age they need to be gone through. My ig is the same as my handle here. You can see my ecm progress there.

They rebuild them for 225 a pop. Then test each circuit with an oe rotunda ford tool to verify everything is ok.

I just ordered new capacitors for mine. Hoping to do them this weekend!

 

Pretty much any place offering ecu repair can fix them... There dead simple vs newer stuff but some components are getting hard to find. I would suggest Keyworks: KEYS & ECU Repair (804) 404-5399

 

I had checked at autozone, and the guy said they can get them. He's one of the managers, been there about 20 years or so, not a typical pimple farmer counter monkey.
Think it was just over a $100, and you turn in your old one.

 

I bought one from autozone about 6 months ago because I had a giftcard. They just ship it to your house from the remanufacturer. The ecm was bad out of the box and it also didn't have any ford part number or catch code.

I'd try again with one for my 87 f150 maybe. But I'd rather have a known good one that's easily identifiable for my car.

 

He told me you had to turn in your old one at the time, wasn't sure if they fixed it or used it as a core. I'd think they'd look up vehicle application when you bought it to make sure you get the right one. I had bought them through chain stores before and they worked well.
I'd also sent in an A9P, and an A9L for repairs at that place on EBay, they fixed the P, and it worked well, but could not fix the A9L and the constant fuel pump running. I was going to buy a reman through autozone and use it as a core.

 

Lot of the parts stores have the 8lx series mass air and Sd computers screwed up in there part number systems so if you order one its hit or miss on if you get the correct ecu, usually E8zf- gx part number.. You will know just by looking at it when it shows up. the case between a SD and maf ecu's are way different. Every bse or cardone I opened still had factory capacitors on the board but no idea when they where rebuilt..... You don't always get a mustang board, so I assume they swap eproms to good core boards. This was a cheap BSE reman for the A9p part number I got from a old stock liquidation.. You can see they scribe the part number on the connector E9zf-ca, can't see that with the cover on. But I've had a few that where clearly not mustang boards with extra components that are normally open spots on the mustang boards. Worked fine though.
