Straight cut gears are EXTREMELY noisy --- I'd never use them on a street car. Dog boxes also lack synchros - so a lot of good driving technique on the street is needed to save wear/tear on the gears themselves. In race cars you expect to rebuild them as needed (which means regularly in most series) - you just need a good strong synchromesh tranny that's rated for your car's torque level. What kind of output do you expect?

The old style Top loaders work best for this as far as an "economy" transmission goes. If you can find one of the large input shaft trans you can do just a few upgrades ( straight gears, no synchros's) and throw A LOT of power at them. With the right clutch set up ( McLeod Street twin ) they work very well and aren't that hard to street drive. Now if you got loads of money, Jerico ST1200 hands down.

G Force is the only company I know of offering a straight cut gear for the T5 . The gears are stronger than a helical cut gear but are a lot louder when operating . As far as going with a face plated unit , they work great on upshifting but require some getting use to on down shifting . Some like them and some do not .
