Hey guys! newbie at the track ran 15.7 @ 91mph with a '60 of 2.3 sec. '95 gt o/r x-pipe, drag radials and short throw shifter. I've been studying my slips I know I need to work on my launch, shifting points and play with tire pressure. It was kinda of hot so I had my windows rolled down will that slow the car down? My question to you guys is do you race with your windows rolled up or down?

If you are running with your windows down that the track personal are not doing there job. You should always keep your windows up.

The guys at our tracks won't even let me go down the track with the sunroff opened. Safety rules require everything to be closed.

I have once had the window 1/3 of the way down, and realized it after 2nd, so I rolled it up halfway down the track... Here they make you put them up, seat belt on, and if you have a helmut have it strapped (they rushed us once and I didnt have the strap done). In my eyes, you should be doing this on your own!

Exactly nhra and ihra rules require the windows to be rolled up. Last time at the track IHRA, All I wanted to do was launch the car to practice the tree and they wouldn't let me do it without my helmet on. I even told the starting guy and he said to put the helmet on. I took it off after the 60 ft mark LOL and cruised down the track at 40 mph.

You can run with it down if you have a window net.
and arm restraints. Think about an open body altered. No windows or net, but your arms are "tied" into the car so if you crash they don't go flailing all over the place, potentially getting trapped between the car and the gaurdrail/track surface. FWIW, if I wanted to run my vert with the top down, I'd need a full halo with a net and restraints. Top up I only need a bar.

Thanks guys for all replies! Like I said first time at the track. Did not even think of the safety issue, just wondering why it ran 91mph instead of 94mph. I'll go back this wed. with the windows rolled up, less air pressure in rear tires, good burnout, try not to spin the tires, and play with shift points. Maybe a couple of bags of ice for my intake. I would like to see at least a 14.5 sec. ET.

Definately windows up, sunroof closed, etc... Getting flung out of your car in case of an accident doesn't sound like much fun to me. Take off your helmet after you finish, roll the windows down, sunroof open and heater on.
