D0OE 351W Ported Heads Running Low 11's

Blew my first 351w about 2 years ago. Salvaged everything but the block and internals. when the heads were off I attempted my first home port job after some extensive internet research. Anyone out there wanting to port their own heads I'd say do it to it. Car is running 11.42@118.6mph / 7.28@94.5 1.59 60'.
My goal this year with some fine tuning is 11.00@120mph

Thanks for posting. This is encouraging information.

What did you do to the bowls and the runners? Do you have any pictures?

I'm working on a 351W for a boat, and bought a set of C9OE's ($300) that have been gasket matched ported, and have had 194/160 valves installed. Although they're not SS valves, and regular steel guides. I'm on the fence as to whether I should put a little more money into them ($300) to clean up the valves and blend the bowls, or get rid of them and go with new technology.

There's also a guy here locally that has a set of C5AE's the have been ported and polished with a new valve job, Manley SS valves and bronze guides. Hey wants $800 which seems steep to me.

When it comes to stock Ford heads, it's C9/D0 351w* or nothing.
Seriously, everything else for a 289/302/351w sux. Period.
Nothing is even close, not even GT40/GTPs.
Those C5s were worth something long ago, before aftermarket heads became mainstream in the 90s. Today they are boat anchors.

*Make sure they are 351w heads.
There are possibly 302 heads with nearly identical casting numbers.

I found this set heads a few years back for $400. They had a fresh valve job with 1.94/1.60 valves installed along with comp cams double valve springs and bronze guides. Was a good price for a packaged set. The porting was free. I would say if your looking at $600 or more to finish a cast set of heads I would look for a used set of aluminum aftermarket heads. Guess I got lucky on these heads. Only 1 pic of an exhaust port almost finished. There is a wealth of info and pics on this site and others across the internet. Google it.

Those heads (C9 and D0 351w) are way underrated.
They get put down all the time as "stock junk", and it's just not true.
Glad to see someone stepping up using a set.
They are flow bench proven to flow better than many aftermarket heads after they are properly ported. I get crucified on the boards all the time for bringing that up.

The only problem is that you have to do all the work yourself....
If you pay someone to port them, the cost will equal a set of AFRs, and I'm going with AFR over a set of C9/D0s! (If I have to pay someone)
