I currently have BBK long tubes with a BBK off road x pipe and a magnapack. I smell too much exhaust and unburned fuel, thanks to no cats, and the car is just way too loud. will switching to a catted x pipe get rid of the smell all together or just minimal and what will it do about sound volume.

Yes to both. Adding a catted pipe will cut about 25-30% of the sound, and clean up the smell. I went back to a BBK catted X-pipe with my new build. I was sick of obnoxiously loud exhaust. Now I can hear the motor working, and worry less about drawing TOO much attention. :)

I actually went the opposite route. I had the BBK Catted X pipe. With that exhaust system, you didnt smell anything, except for when you step on the gas, you can smell the cats burning. It will defiantly lower the sound output and eliminate all the exhaust fumes.

i guess i just like my cars loud... always have. Esp once i found exhaust that is crazy loud outside and still civil inside.

as far as the gas vapor in your eyes, dont be a ##### hahahaha

A catted h or x will be significantly quieter, but you will definitely still be able to hear a god exhaust tone. The cats will do a good job of cleaning up the unburnt fuel in your exhaust as well......that is after all what they are designed for ;)

I have a Bassani x-pipe with high-flow cats and it still has a little bit of an off-road scent to it. I don't think anything will ever clean the fumes as good as a factory set-up. I think the sound level will be similar until you push it to 3K+ RPM's. Overall, your exhaust will smell 80-90% cleaner. Your power level might even improve with high-flow cats.

My main issue is that i have to go to school and the campus police are pretty hard. Also in California there is a huge fine for removing the cats. I figure the sound will attract them and the smell will be a dead give away. So switching to a catted midpipe would more or less eliminate the smell and cut down on sound alot?

The cats will quiet it down at any RPM range so I think you'll be ok when you put them on. However, mufflers also play an integral part of how loud the exhaust is gonna be. I would install the cats and then see how it sounds. You can always switch up mufflers as well later on.
