Carb guys what fuel pump setup?

I am getting ready to do my carburetor fuel setup. Most guys I work with say Holley blue pump, is that right or should i look another direction i want to keep it under or around 150. I also already have a regulator from a holley blue pump kit. Also what are you using for lines? As anyone reused a EFI line for it? The carb setup is just something i want to try so i dont want to tie a couple hundred bucks into fuel lines when it might all come right off in 6 months.

I was thinking about running a Holley red pump for the motor and than another holley red pump and small fuel cell for when its on the bottle, would that be a good setup or would it be dumb to add that weight?

My setup is just windsor heads,TF1 cam, longtubes, holley 600 carb, and eddy rpm performer intake....Thanks

I ran a holley red with an almost identical setup as you quite a few years ago. Car ran 12.4 on D/R's and a grinding t5, trac loc and 4.10's.

I have the holley blue on my car and they used the factory feed and return lines. My only real complaint with the pump is the noise. Its pretty obnoxious.

LOL yes I forgot about that! Pretty bad when you can hear the pump over the Lt's and prochamber with no mufflers.

The only issue I had with mine was the rubber line used to extend the pickup dry rotted and got a pinhole in it. I was driving home one day and went to accelerate away from a light and had no power and then it stalled. Fired right back up and drove another 1/4 mile and stalled. Then it was hard to start. Got it started and it would idle but as soon as you touched the gas it'd stall. Like sucking through a straw with a hole in it. had to dro the tank with 1/2 tank of gas in it and replace the hose. Cheap fix but a pain in the arse!

I ran the blue pump too on my juiced 306 along with the stock lines. It was good enough to run 11.1x's.

Mallory pumps are very quiet.

Ran the cheapest possible set up on my car. Its summit fuel kit comes with all lines (braided) all fittins(anodized aluminum) holley fuel pump and a chrome fuel filter as well as a fuel pressure adjuster for lik 200 bucks if i remember right supported me easily to 400hp

I am in the process of installing the Summit kit as well.Looks to be a really nice kit too and saved me a ton of money not having to buy things separately.

Yes you can lead a horse to water...........but you cant make him drink.(LOL)

my holley pump was loud as hell

Everyone i work with runs the holley pumps and the carb is a holley so i figured i will just go with it, i have read some mounting tips to help quite down the pump!

Does anyone think a one holley blue pump can handle a N/A motor with around 340 flywheel hp and a 150 to 200 shot?

If not i might do a holley red pump for now to get it going n/a than add another pump for the shot later with a little fuel cell!

I ran the Holley black pump. Very noisy. Had to mount it in an area that didnt help reduce noise either. I went with Holleys 150 gerotor pump which is much quieter. For about a month though I thought someone was chasing me with a chain saw.

Agree with everyone, I run a Holley Red Pump and it is very noisy. I cant hear it over my LT's ans dumped 2 chambers though :D

I run the Holley blue on my setup. Very noisy but it's a race car, if it was a street car i'd go with the Mallory. I have an in tank pick up (designed for a carb) and got a 25ft roll of aluminum fuel line (need a 37 degree flare tool) from Summit and plumbed it all in. Just needed a few fittings and their fuel filter (red/chrome) and all is good, no complaints.

I run one of those new Holley gerator electric pumps (that may be mis spelled). point is no noise, can hardly hear it run. They make 2 sizes I have the smaller one. No fuel problems at all. I must repeat if you are looking for less noise from an electric pump check these out, my .02

If it may only be temp, then leave the stock lines alone. How do you plan on connecting the pump to the hard lines to the regulator ?

If you're going to do it, do it right and don't do a hack job. Buy one decent pump, run braided line and be done with it.

If i run braided line than i will have more money in braided line than i have in any other part on the car!

My plans are to rubber hose what i have too, I will only run the fuel setup for around 6 months than if i really like it I might do braided line or some other kind of hard line

I looked up the summit kit that was spoke about in a few post above its over 300 bucks now, i still have a week or two before i need anything fuel related so i got time to figure everything out!

The one thing I am glad I did right the first time is my fuel system. #10 feed, #8 return, with an sx pump that can be used with a carb or efi. The only thing I would have to change if I ever switched to efi is the regulators.

I run an in tank 255 lph pump with a return style regulator, mine is boost ref. for the blower but you can get non boost ref. cheaper. That setup with 3/8" feed and return is good for a little over 500 rwhp with a blower, more N/A and is nice and quiet. It would work better with a larger return line but I havn't gotten to that yet.

Okay I do see what yall are saying my current setup is a walbro 255, should i get a return style regulator and turn it down like that or go with some sort of low pressure high volume pump?

Is there any fuel kits that anybody recommends?

I ran a holley blue with my 302,stock lines and a 150 shot without a problem. When I stepped up to the 180 shot I ran out of fuel. I'm not sure if it was the pump or the stock fuel line being too small. Hope that helps. I'm going to run 2 holley blue's off of my sumped tank and run another bigger line to the front so I have plenty of fuel for the 347 when I eventually get to spray it.
