Bleeding brakes with ABS

Are you suppose to bleed the ABS unit on a 99GT when bleeding the brakes?

If so, is there a bleeder nipple(s) on it? Secondly, where does it fall in the normal bleeding sequence (pass rear, drivers rear, pass front, drivers front)?

according the ford shop dvd manual on my 97, the bleeding sequence is left rear, right rear, right front, left front, then master cylinder. This sequence falls in with the longest brake line to the shortest, because the abs unit is in the right front.

the abs unit doesn't get bled, and doesn't effect how you bleed the brakes.

Do you have air in the lines or are just you flushing the system and filling with new? As long as you don't have air in the lines between the MC and ABS unit you can bleed it normally. If you have air in there, the lines between the MC and ABS unit were opened, or the MC went dry you "should" use a bi-directional ABS controller, but you can do it without. But if your doing pads, flushing the system, or just a fresh bleed you can bleed them normally.

What's this bi-directional ABS controller?

I changed my calipers lastnight and today i bled the brakes the same way i have done it 50 times before (with a pump attached to the MC). Everything seems fine, I flushed a lot of fluid, but i got into the car and brake pedal to the floor.... The only thing i did different it was the order. I did a RR, RL, FL, FR.

Any ideas?

I did it this weekend.

My purpose was to change out the old fluid, and to see if it would affect my ABS light, which starting coming on whenever I start the engine (before I start moving).

So I just bled the master cylinder (2 nipples), then the four calipers.

The ABS light now goes on intermittently -sometimes upon startup, and sometimes while driving. Before it was coming up all the time upon startup.

Dunno what that's telling me <<shrug shoulders>>

When it comes on does it stay on or does it go away? Have it checked to see what it says is wrong. Not sure if Autozone, Advance Auto, etc... can read ABS codes too or just check engine lights. If not the dealer can, but might cost $. Find out what it says is wrong and go from there.
