Im thinking about getting a kit for the old cobra, wondering what all you people out there are running..

Vortech? Paxton? Procharger?

How much did your kits cost, where they complete kits?

Wheres the best place to order from?

Is there anything I would want to do before install?

My 1994 has around 105k miles on it, full exhaust on it, msd, 3.73, king cobra clutch, ect...

Its been well kept, but is there anything I should check? ie-new head gaskets?

Any info would be great, thanks for the help!

I'd would say go for the vortech. It proves itself time and time again and you won't be pushing it too hard if you keep the stock pancake elbow blower inlet that vortech provides for the kit.:D

The main thing is:

#1 Compression Check

Why put a blower on when your motor has seen its last days? If you get bad results, save the dough for another motor instead.

Good luck.

Yeah I will do that, I dont plan on it lasting forever, just a long summer /w low boost.

If I got a new motor, I could swap it to the new setup right?

What kit should I get? 4FG218-020SQ ?

thanks again.

I had the vortech s-trim on my car for two summers now and have probably put aroun 10000 miles on it. I bought it used from a friend and he probably put 10000 on it also. No complaints here. Still running strong. Good luck

Am I the only one here who realizes the benfits of intercooled boost? :) I say ditch the s-trim and get a p1sc intercooled setup. Intake temps drops dramaticlly which gives ya a bit more HP per psi not to mention the incease in HP you will gain from more timing with less detonation.

Lets see, would you rather get a strim setup for $3k or a p1sc intecooled setup for $3k? With both prices being the same I don't see why everyone still goes with vortech.

I'm not trying to make enemies but it puzzles me why anyone would go with an interfer product? Forgot to mention the bracket's to vortech are flimsy too, need a brace or a customer bracket to make sure it doesn't bend during hard acceleration.

I bought my Vortech because I got it for $2100. That included 30# injectors and a new MAF. I wouldn't have it if I Had to pay 3k.

Well my prices was based on new stuff, if you can find a good deal i guess go fot it.

If you want to get a procharger, call Dave at JDSperformance.com. He has the lowest prices, few hundred off what others sells it for.

I am considering a Kenne Bell (kennebell.net). It would depend on what you are going to do with the car and how much boost you plan on running. Track only car, weekend street strip car or daily driver? If a lot of track (1/4 mile track) times then I would go with a Vortec or intercooled ATI. Street duty I think the Kenne Bell would be the way to go.
My plans (wish) for my Cobra I would go with a Kenne Bell SC. Great low end torque for the street. Does not get the peak HP as the Vortec or ATI, but those don't have the low end torque as the Kenne Bell. Think about it, how many times do you get the rpms up over 5k to get the boost up for max hp on the street. Just my opinion.

Well with ATI's reputation of bad seals on their head units made me go with a Vortech. Vortech's s-trim is tried and true head unit with many happy customers. I have a few problems with the ATI unit. I didn't want the head unit on the driver's side, hard to get a power pipe, you need to use a blow-thru meter, and not to mention the P1SC uses the 6rib serpentine belt. I hardly think the Vortech s-trim is inferior to the P1SC. Each kit has their advantages and disadvantages when comparing to each other, but one thing that is hard to beat is a companies reputation for making a good product. Like you, I am not trying to start a war, just stating my opinions as you did.

ehh...I dont really agree with that either.

one of my buddies hits 430 rwhp on his stock 94 Cobra motor from 11 psi of S-trim. Intercooler is nice but not really necessary. And I dont know anybody that has needed a brace for the 'flimsy' bracket regardless of how much power they put down.

He has a power pipe, 70mm TB and an Exhaust. 200+rwhp gain from a non-intercooled blower is impressive to me.

Too many ATI's have issues for me to look that way anymore.

IMO V1 S-trims are the baddest sounding street blower there is.

Yea, definitely make sure you have enough money for the supporting cast of parts.

Like fuel and ignition equipment. They definitely should not be overlooked.

Then there is the tuning. Some cars only improve a little over what they were making until a real tuner gets to work on it. I helped build a twin turbo Stillen 300ZX and it put out 507 to the wheels. This was with the best tune we could put on it by guessing and listening.

We gave it to a tuner with a laptop and a dyno and he pumped it up to 628 at the wheels with no additional equipment! We were leaving 121 hp on the table! The thing was all over the place on fuel and timing before he stepped in.
