I looked for some info on how people are torquing this large bolt 5/8 18RH ARP#150-2501. Most of what I found was all over the place as far as how people people did it and what was used on the threads ARP moly, loctite or oil. ARP site is also not very clear. They do list torque value for that size bolt being 250ft lbs which I thought was very high. Also they recommend referring to the torque value for specific application of the vehicle.

I pretty sure loctite for the crank bolt should be used onthe threads but now that changes the torque needed. Anyone have any good information on this??

Was that an ARP crank bolt you torqued to 90ft lbs, and how did you come up with that number.

Item number 29...

Install front cover seal, gasket, timing pointer and front cover. Tighten cover bolts to 16-24 N-m (12-18 lb-ft). (Refer to procedure in this section.) Also, install crankshaft damper and pulley and torque bolt to 95-122 N-m (70-90 lb-ft).

Right the stock fastener/crank bolt is @90 lb-ft but ARP fasteners/crank bolt have a different rating and clamping force. The ARP bolt will not have the same clamping force at 90 lb-ft as the stock bolt because of the stretching affect.

I'd call ARP from their web page the torgue value for a 5/1-18 bolt would be way up there:

ARP-bolts.com | ARP - World-leading Fastener Technology

5/8″ 210 26,372 240 29,756 270 33,140

But thay add the disclaimer:
"NOTE: The torque values represented here are intended to be for general information only, not for specific installations. On specific installations, where supplied instructions deviate from the torque values listed here, always follow the specific instructions packaged with each kit. Find the instructions for your kit here."

Just got off the phone with ARP tech and they said 150 ft lbs with ARP lube and 5 to 10 more with loctite on the threads so with loctite they said torque to 155 ft lbs.

I too have the arp bolt, using a romac balancer. Putting it back on tomorrow afternoon. Installed new timing cover and be crank seal.

Should I rtv the face of the washer that goes toward the crank &/or the keyway???

Update.........I had to hone to balancer with a brake caliper hone, boil it in a pot of water for 1/2 hour, and draw a tracking line in white-out on the crank to make sure I got it started correctly. Used the bolt to pull it in, then took the bolt back out, rtv'd the key slot and face of the washer that faces the crank, put medium strength loctite on the bolt threads, and torqued to 150 ft/lbs.
