Building a 408W and was thinking the AFR 220cc heads would be the way to go.

However the recommendation from AFR was to use there 205cc heads.

operating range is going to be 2000-6500....its 90% a street car. but I want to hit the 500-550hp range N/A.

Looking for opinions if people think the 205cc head is the way to go or if I should use the 220cc?

Do the 220's.....because they don't have a 240.

You do realize that GM puts heads that flow this much on pickup trucks right? IT'S NOT TOO MUCH!

ok...seems the consensus is do the 220's

off topic but I learned that the super victor 351W EFI manifold I plan on using has clearance issues with the 8451 MSD distributor I planned on using. Anyone know what needs to be done for the MSD to work? or better yet any other brands of distributors that don't have clearance issues?

The 220`s are not too big, but I would think nice torque with the 205 for a street car.

Id put 220s on my stock bottom end 302 if the pistons had the radial clearance..its all in the cam

You can never get too much head, contrary to popular belief...also...It does NOT make you go blind either.

are the afr 220cc better than the new 205 11R? they look like they actually flow about the same according to their charts. Looks like AFR tests theirs with bigger bore and exhaust pipe though. Im also building a 393-408 and curious what heads to get.

I just bought a set of the 56cc TW 11r 205s from Ed for the 331 I got for a song. Having them done up with LSx hyd roller springs and 8mm valves, milling for higher compression, arp studs etc.. keep an eye for track times and such in the next cpu5ple months

Op if you want to have the best street manners and power from 2000 to 6500 I would go with the 205s. I would also recommend a ported victor jr over the super victor. Make sure you get a cam spec'd out by a pro if your like me and don't know enough to pick the perfect one on your own.
The 205 will easily make your goals. If the biggest head that will fit was always best why do they make the smaller ones right?

Someone said gm trucks have heads that flow what the afr 220 flow? Which heads are those? Just curious I am not about to buy a set for my first gen windsor I will stick to the 220s. Lol

The stock GM heads.

And the reason they make smaller heads is for guys who want to build puss engines. Lol
