Factory shifter, pattern 1-2-3OD.

 

I would not suggest the TCI CP unit to anyone, as I have modified many of them to make them "right". Internet search for reviews you will probably find more nay than yay for sure.

the CP unit is NOT a MVB however
a MVB is it’s own breed, no auto shift at all.
You need to make up your mind if you want to just ditch the 1d1 shuffle or go MVB
There are tons of MVB's but as for AUTO SHIFT units that hold manual 2nd there are three (which I explain bellow)
PA: simply the epoxy mod to a stock vb, otherwise add some drill holes, done. Anyone can epoxy and add a shift kit for under $100 to their own VB.
Lentech: Street Terminator, great vb, made and shipped from Canada - missing some finer notes to overall customer satisfaction and harsh 4-3 shift.
SPT: Ahem…custom calibration per customer, finer adjustments added, MADE IN USA

 

Your car must be a 4 cylinder conversion. The shift pattern you described is for the a4ld, the auto that went behind the 2.3 4 cylinder. The aod pattern is p r n od 3 1/2. To shift manually, you have to perform the "aod shuffle" of shifting to 3 and back to 1 in order to hold second gear

...if DOOM is corect as we are talking about an AOD using an A4LD shifter that has 7 detents instead of 6, then for sure there is issues.

"aod" transmissions are lemons, just remove and throw them in the drink.

 

AODs can be great transmissions if built properly. 4r70w internals, single piece input shaft, and a silverfox or lentech mvb would be a strong little transmission. The solution to your shifting problems for the moment is to get the shifted out of a v8 car...see how you like it then

I went with a Lentech and full manual VB for my 99% street car and I LoVE iT! I've had it for three years and would do it again in a heartbeat. Massive fun to drive and never miss a shift- this fun an old manual nut.
