We have several Mustangs in the works and this one I need help with for sure.

'84 Coupe - Have converted this sweety to carb'd V8, AOD with 3.55 gears, and the problem is the TV cable/rod connection to the Holley.

Who has done this AOD tranny upgrade and how do we get the TV cable or rod attached properly, then ... adjusted? This car was OE C4 tranny.

BTW - Is it safe to get the 5.0 running with the AOD simply in park or neutral to tune the motor?

Thanks for your help guys!

i was running a carbd 5.0 with an AOD in my 65 coupe before I went to EFI and a 4R70W trans.
You can purchase an adapter arm to mate the TV cable to the Holley throttle linkage. The trick is that the geometry between the TV cable adapter lever on the carb and the lever on the trans must be pretty close to the stock configuration or the trans TV pressure curve will be screwed up. Bad karma for an AOD! You can't just put a ball stud on the Holley linkage and call it a day, Oh No, that would be too easy!!! I did a bunch of measuring and fabricated up my own carb lever. My home made rig worked fine but I think I would just go ahead and buy a commercial one for the convenience. I was never able to get the stock TV cable to work correctly so I purchased a pricy Lokar cable that did the job.

No... Never took any detailed pics. There's really not much to it if you buy the Holley linkage adapter and the Lokar cable kit. It's a common swap in the vintage Mustang world.

I'm sure you can search the interweb and find everything you need.

It's a little pricey but it's a heck of a lot cheaper than overhauling a burned up AOD!

I have the rod set-up. Since my ccar was fi, I have an aftermarket throttle set-up. Took an Edelbrock TV adaptor, drilled out the rod linkage and attatched it to my holley throttle. took a few test drives to get it adjusted just right. Here are some pics....
