The tech in this thread is just out of this world. With an original question bereft of detail and answers that are nothing more than brands thrown against the wall, this thread will be a resource for generations to come. Bravo, bravo, bravo.
He asked for heads and cam suggestion for a factory block 302 without clearance issues. What is wrong with a TFS top end kit? He asked a simple question and got simple answers.
I think it would help if you layed out some goals and intended purpose of the build. Also, if your willing to buy used, a set of ported tfs 170s will support a lot of HP and clear stock pistons, and should be cheaper than a comparable set new.
saying a 'custom cam' is a very generic term. it needs the correct cam for the application from someone who has preferably done that application before.
More info on future goals would be helpful. But without knowing anything else like your budget, the aforementioned TW170s or AFR 165s and your intake would wouldn't cause any valvetrain interference on a factory shortblock. Get in the habit of measuring everything anyway but there won't be a problem.
Something for the op to think about you need to learn regular mechanical terms and understand the order AT LEAST in which things have to be done. Understanding and asking whomever does your work to CHECK PISTON VALVE CLEARANCE NO MATTER WHAT YOU BUY. WORST CASE you know what you have. There are heads that will work without piston valve issues, BUT there are so many small things that could have done before you purchased your car/engine that no one will know about UNLESS its checked. I check everything regaurdless of what anyone tells me. Remember that there are not trustworthy people that you are just taking peoples word for stuff. If you do not know what you are doing find someone you trust and pay them. Good luck no matter what you decide.
for a 302 i still like the TFS 192 high port. and they can be have a TEA 218 CNC port done to them if you ever build a larger shortblock. but with a high port you will likely have to notch the valves depending on cam choice.
