I have a 97 cobra and she is getting up there in mileage.I change oil every 3k-5k miles and use full synthetic, if a part seems worn I replace immediately, I keep the fluids checked and maintained. In short, I try to keep my cobra in good working order. It is a daily driver and I get up to passing speeds daily, ( so many slow drivers out there ), but I don't think I abuse the engine. Sorry to ramble, but I am trying to paint a picture of the car's daily experience. I drive aggressive, but not what I would call "hard" or abusive. I currently have 169422 miles (mostly highway miles) on her and she will still leave an SS Camaro in the dust...thanks to the 4:30's.

Now for the question of the day, how long should I expect this engine to last me? Are the 32v's known to have good longevity? It hardly uses any oil, I have always used premium gas, there are no knocks or pings coming from it. Are these engines just that tough? If I were to add about 6lbs of boost to my current driving lifestyle would it kill it?

I know all engines eventually break down, but it would be nice to know about when to start looking for it.

Thanks alot for any info on this.

Don't stick a power adder on it at this point. Sounds like you take good car of your car. I would suggest a compression test and a leak down test and that will give you a pretty good idea of the state of your engine. I'd drive it as is till you are ready to do a forged rebuild and put some real boost to it. Start gathering parts while you are waiting.

When I get a chance I am going to grab an Aluminator short block, but I figured I'd have a little fun with it till then. I have a Vortech S-trim and wanted to use it before having to upgrade the engine. I figured 6lbs of boost wouldn't really be pushing it that hard and would make 2 lane passing a bit more of a hoot. Once the Aluminator goes in I'll bump it up to 10lbs of boost.

I put the blower on my 2V at 106K. There was no bad effect at all. That being said, on a 4V, you need to watch that you don't exceed the strength of the rods with a blower. If that happens you are SOL.

I bought my cobra with 98,xxx on her and immediately put the Vortech on. She now has 12x,xxx on her with no problems. Makes 380/361 a the rear. And its my daily. Drives great. Only problems Ive ever had from her were caused by me. If you have the money then go ahead and get a rebuild. if not then do what you want. As long as you use the stock pulley and have a good tune you should be ok. Thats if your current engine checks out good first.

Blow it. You seem to take good care of your car. Most of the problems you hear about are from people who race their cobras. I would have the compression check done and if all is good...go for it!

hey man i put a vortech s trim on my stock 96 cobra engine with 143,000 on it np it made like 372hp and 345 tq. it was quick and ran great until the day i pulled it and sold it. to drop in an terminator setup. if yours runs good man put the blower on it and have fun with it.
