I'm going to try a standard crush sleeve because I've already got one that came in my bearing kit, I'll see how it works out in a day or two. If it turns out to be too much of a PITA I'll order up a solid spacer.
Ratech also makes a special crush sleeve that is supposed to be easier to compress, haven't seen anyone actually running one though.
you just need so much power to crush that sleeve....we used to use a breaker bar with a large piece of galvenized pipe on the end while the car was up on the lift to crush it down to specs....a 1/2 impact gun wont do it
I am going to get the solid sleeve and shims. Need more shims to be able to set this rear end up correctly I think. NONE of the parts going together have ever been mated with any thing in this combo. Mustang housing, Truck carrier, Strange axles, new gear...
the benefit to me was being able to use the solid spacer over and over. When you crush the sleeve, and your setting is wrong, you're screwed and need another.
