i got a 393 stroker with forged ross flat tops, i believe they are at zero deck, and world sr iron 64cc heads.

i know the basis for the right heat range depends on: motor size, compression, and heads.

compression (using online compression calc's): anywhere from 11.50:1 - 12.1:1
heads: world windsor sr (iron)
cid: 393

as an added note i run half 93 octane and half 100 octane sunoco unleaded...if this matters?

i've been searching and everyone is saying on motor 2924's and spray 3923's. but most of them guys are just 302 or 347 motors.

i'll have the gap at .045.

thanks,
nick

not judging your expertise or nothing but are you juding my plugs from your 408 stroker?

what is your compression?

mike yount, joe sherman, jay allen, ed curtis....or any other long time engine builders/gu-ru's guys think i need to go colder than the 23's?

yea i was trying to do a rough estimate b/c in the 12-13 sec range i know 10hp is good for a .10 in that range. 10-12hp well that's good enough for me!

man 22's just seem sooooo cold i just don't want to foul the plugs that's all.

what do you mean by this? i already did get the engine "in the ballpark" it has a holley 750 with a barry grant center body. 4 corner mixture screws.

i hooked a vac guage up to the manifold vac port on the carb and found it pulled the most vac with the screws 3/4 turn out from seated. i got it to pull13psi with a 950rpm idle (with the car at operating temp of course).

the base timing is 16deg and total right now is 32.

the plugs i have in there now are 23's but just wanted to see if they are the right temp. i pulled the plugs and they are all black but that is b/c i just got the carb rebuilt and when i put it on the car and turned on the elec pump it dumped fuel in the motor until the carb was stabilized with the float bowls and whatnot. so when i fired it up it was loaded with fuel in the cylinders.

i am getting the car dyno tuned tomorrow and wanted to throw a new set of plugs on it b/c like i said these are pretty much fouled out.

allways do a back to back test with new plugs.

what one engine likes is not what another likes... even if engines are same....!

what shows on dyno does not alleays result as best on street or track...!!!

drivABility and smoothness is NOT determined on the dyno....
how you shift the gears and go around corners cannot be replicated on the dyno.

use the highest heat range that will not detionate.

well i got her dynoed and just left the 23's in her. car liked 32 degrees total and got a best of 420hp/437tq with a spot on 12.8:1 pretty much the whole way.

i guess that's not too bad considering the heads.

i'll get the dyno chart up tomorrow.
