351w intake: TFS R-series single plane vs edelbrock super victor

I wasn't able to find much info on the trick flow units so I ordered a super victor. It sits crooked as hell, needs machining on the intake rails, and I noticed even the injector ports are machined differently and some are much closer to the port walls than the others. At this point I'm debating returning the edelbrock and getting the trick flow unit (which is $60 cheaper too).

Anyone have the trick flow carbureted style intake? Any power numbers or comparisons vs a super victor? I'm talking part number TFS-52400115, not the EFI long runner setup or Box R.

I have used it many times. Fit and finish is always better than the edelbrock, but sounds like you got a bad edelbrock. I havent had to machine an edelbrock for quite some time now. Power will be comparable, single digit differences which is irrelevant

Keep in mind that intake is not machined for the injectors. The casting is there but not machined

Thanks for the info woody. That's curious that you haven't had to machine the edelbrocks lately. I've heard very mixed things on the fitment in general but this one is definitely less than ideal. One side needs about 0.150" machined off to make the intake ports align with the head and the other is only around 0.060" off. I was going to just go to the machine shop and then I noticed how uneven the injector ports were and decided I should probably exchange the intake.

Odd, mine had good alignment with my AFR220's using an 0.090" thick 1262-R gasket.

Biggest issue I had was the intake ports tapered a lot and I had to carefully port/de-taper the port exits to get a decent match.

I have AFR205s which I believe are a little lower port than the 220? Not sure honestly.

I called summit, asked them if I can get a warranty refund, and they credited my account right then and there. So I have the trick flow setup coming and will report back with fitment.

I have the 52400115 manifold.

You'll likely need to drill and tap the rear water passages for sensors and/or heater core returns. The fit was good with AFR heads, but I don't have my block or heads shaved. The pic below was just some light clean up work. No heavy porting needed for my build. There is a decent taper in the runners, FYI. The matching TFS/Aeromotive Fuel rails are good to go.

Well my 2 week backorder turned into a month, then two months, and then 6 months. So I called summit back and they are cancelling my trickflow order and I have another super victor coming. Hopefully this one fits correctly...

29245 on mine, afr205, 090 gaskets it fits absolutely perfect. That said I have a coolant leak, very very slight and I ain't found it yet. Somewhere near the back of the engine. Just ain't had time to isolate it. Yet.

There is some port misalignment (intake barely smaller) but that mismatch isn't necessarily bad. Just depends...on a lot of things. If you open up the end of the intake port you outta consider completing the job

That's awesome news. I'm really hoping this new one fits and I can make forward progress finally. My goal initially was to finish on time to drive on Christmas break but that will be very difficult now...

Finally got my intake and installed it. The fit is much better but still a little high. The passenger side is still higher than driver. For now I'm just going to run it and get the car running again. I'll fiddle with it when I swap cams in the next year or so.

Also threw on the throttle body and fuel rails. Starting to look like an engine again.

what intake gasket you using? a thinner one will help drop the intake down some.
