looking for proven combos
1991 GT 3800 stall 456 gears full manual valve body car

looking to replace my tired stock bottom end HCI 302 with a 351 and go into the 10`s and drive it to the track and back with high compression or pump gas

I have no parts yet

I was thinking budget 351w roller block eagle rods with ARP bolts KB116 pistons and a healthy hydro roller cam and some high flowing heads that aren't ridiculously expensive

if you never had a 351 combo and or don't build engine for a living please don't comment

this will be carbed and driven less than 1000 miles a year to cruise ins car shows and the occasional street light to street light romp

all suggestion appreciated....

BTW HCI stock bottom eill be for sale if anyone is inrterested
gt40 heads jasons springs
tfs stg 1 cam
explorer intake
24lb injector and maf
short headers
best offer

358" Windsor, 10:1 compression, 71 casting Cleveland heads, 255/259* flat tappet with a small port single plane and an AED 750 carb: 6.80s@98mph on motor 1/8 mile. it went 6.40s@105 on a 125 shot.

same heads under a 11.7:1 410, with a little larger roller, a bigger intake and an AED 1000 4150: 6.30s@108 on motor 1/8 mile. After a straub cam, still in the 6.30s at 111.

I run a stock bore F4TE 351W block, DSS flat tops, out of the box twisted wedge 170's, FTI cam, Box R Intake, 70mm throttle body, 24# injectors, 4.10 gears. Pretty basic combo. Never had it down the track but feels strong and is good enough for a smoke show at about any speed!

If your going to build a 351 with new pistons and recondition/new rods you might as well build a 408 stroker. your cost isnt much different and the performance gains are huge

tell me your personal experience between a 351 and a 408

302 compared to a 347 wasnt impressed

i can build a 351 with good pistons for around a $1000, cant do that with a 408

this is a budget build, pump gas driven to and from the track, with the miles i put on the car it will last. need to decide on what heads cam and carb to use

shortblock will be budget heads intake cam and carb ill spend the cash on

also need to find intank drop in for carb setup for foxbody, i use to see these but havent lately...i woudl liek to do a stroked out 351 but built enough engines to know what i want to do and thats spend as least amount of cash and still have fun

Slap some TFS Twisted wedge 170cc They can be had for 1250$ brand new.

The TFS TW heads is more like a 185cc heads. It flow the same as AFR 185cc head.

The heads is what make the power along with the right cam.

You can buy a 351w Roller shortblock for 1700$ from LTR.

Get a custom HR cam and a Victor JR intake with a 750Double pumper carb. The cost is not super high.

1250$ head
1700$ Shortblock
350$ intake
550$ Carb
400$ Custom Cam
250$ Rollerrockers

if I were doing it, I would find a used stock Windsor shortblock locally. freshen it. so lets say $200 for a shortblock, $350 for a set of probe fps flattops, $600 in machine work, rings and bearings $200. I would buy a bare set of n351 heads for $700. valves and a valvejob $300, a used victor jr $200, port match it yourself, rockers for that $400, pushrods $120, $600 for a custom cam and matching springs, or pick the right solid roller and a set of ebay springs $400, oil pump $120 for a good one, a used aed 650-750 HO $500.

so $4100-4300 depending on what you get deals on. in the right car that should run 10s.

guys i didnt mean to have an attitude my partner at worked switched positions and left me with no help and ive been in a sh%Ty mood for the last 2 weeks

plan is to buy a shortblock with flatop forged pistons
twisted wedge heads
custom hydraulic roller cam
id like to keep it injected but think going carbed woudl save me alot of money

the HCI stock bottom end 302 just isnt fast enough and i want more torque and rpm than i have now

trying to do this as smart as possible and do it right the first time

its either this pickup or a fuel cell again. i like having the stock tank and filler tube though....i might not build this as soon as i thought i was going to

[ame]http://www.amazon.com/UPR-1979-1999-Mustang-Tank-Pickup/dp/B00GWO4FB8[/ame]

my goal is 10`s all motor driven to track, change to slicks and run it; then drive it home.

i wanna do this right the first time this will be my 5 engine build and wanna make sure this thing will do what i want it to do with the drive train i have in it now

I used a 255lph in tank pump with a 1995 3/8" discharge hat, 8an quick connect adapter and ran 6an to the 5/16 return to a holley hp regulator for efi to carb pressure 7 psi. Feeds my 500 hp 408 just fine. And u can swap the regulator if u go efi later.

the hp will be low with enough converter and a pump gas 351. the 347 only made 388rwhp when it went mid 6s@105 in the 1/8th on motor. I don't even want to know how little the pump gas 358 clevor made when it went 6.80s@98. it would be embarrassing. I wouldn't get too caught up on the dyno sheet.
