2003 tr3650 to 2005+ hydraulic conversion

Long story short, I'm picking up a low mileage 3650 from an 03 Mach 1 for almost nothing. I want to know if I can change the bell housing and install a 05+ length 26 spline input shaft so I can have a hydraulic TOB instead of a cable. From the pictures I can find it looks like it should work, but it would be nice to hear from someone that's been inside one of these transmissions.

The bellhousing is integral as in you can't just change them. To make it swappable you need to buy a $500 adapter plate to work with a TKO style bellhousing (tremec or a scattershield one like a QT). There also exists the McCleod kit. If you are going to go hydraulic there is 0 reason to do anything but this.

However... no idea why you would. The OEM Ford cable lasts forever and there are a myriad of great quadrants and firewall adjusters out there to get your clutch perfectly dialed in. I've got the Fiore Microclick adjuster, a MM quadrant and an OEM cable and my clutch is ridiculously smooth.

I'm well aware of the fact that the bell housing is an integral part of the transmission, that's not a problem. While swapping out the input shaft I would need to open up the transmission anyways. Looking at pictures of the different bell housings, I can't see why I couldn't reassemble the transmission with the newer bell housing, but there might be something I'm missing that would cause a problem during reassembly. I know the shift rails are different between the years, but the bearing races in the bell housing appear the same, at least without actually seeing them in person.

As far as clutch cables go, I've had more problems with them than I have my hydraulic setups, and I just like them better.

The front housings will swap. The tail housings WILL NOT.

Remember that you must use the 2005-2010 input shaft with the 2005-2010 front housing. Also, the newer housing is DEEPER and the transmission will sit a little further to the rear.

There is an aftermarket hydraulic throwout bearing that will fit the early TR3650 so why mess up two TR3650s?

Thanks SPeace-ATL, that's what I wanted to hear.

That was the plan, to use the 26 spline input shaft from a 05+ 3650 and the bell housing, for a couple of reasons. It seems like the 26 spline input shafts for the earlier transmissions are in short supply, at least from what I can tell. Plus the trans is going in to a 69' Mustang, not a later model car so the shifter being a little further back is a good thing. The aftermarket TOB for the hydraulic conversion is more money than I would have into this transmission, even after purchasing the 26 spline input shaft and bellhousing, and it would leave me with a weaker input shaft. It almost seems like a no-brainer to me.
