1995 Mustang gt Automatic transmission tuning

Hello all,
I have a 1995 Mustang v6 conv that I had swapped over to a GT automatic driveline. All the necessary harness have been swapped out as I had a parts car.
I have a 331 with a powerdyne, cobra intake, trick flow heads and stage 1 cam, 1,6 roller rockers, with 30# injectors and a matched Pro mass mas air. This is mainly a street driven car, but occasionally it will be going to the track. I have the transmission rebuilt with good clutches, and an improved drum, 2400 stall converter and 3:27 gears.
My issue is during street driving, if you smack it from a 35 mph roll, it will downshift spin the tires and hang the engine on the stock rev limiter (about 6300) and shut off the fuel pump. (Not a good scenario)
I installed a MSD 6 BTM with a 6K chip, now the msd will keep the car from going into the fuel shut off mode, but it will hang on the msd rev limit until the transmission hits second gear. When this happens there is a delay for about 4-5 seconds until the transmission hits second gear. When it shifts it goes back to pulling in 2nd gear up to the 2-3 shift.
I need to know what and how this can be adjusted without me going into the Terminator route, or a high dollar stand alone ECU.
I figured that somebody out there has had to run across this issue with a OBD1 mustang?

Thanks in advance
Dan.

+1 on doing a shift kit, or "jmod" if you haven't already.

That said, your options for tuning the stock eec are tweecer which are still purchaseable, or quarterhorse which you have to find 2nd hand.

Decipha's site has all you could need for learning about or getting tuned on the stock eec.

Your other option is a Baumann controller (usshift.com), which I think has less control than stock eec with one of those tuning platforms.

I personally have found downshifting to 1st useless from those speeds so I've tuned it to hold 2nd or downshift no further than 2nd.

Then there's other options like converter lockup functions, etc. The challenge you will run into is finding what works - there's alot of interrelated tables and sometimes changing something doesn't get you the expected result because its overridden by something else.

Killer,thanks for the info:
I talked to my transmission builder, he told me that the tuning that I am referring about is controlled by the ECU (exactly what you had said)
My builder also told me that i probably need to buy the Tweecer and have the car dyno tuned to optimize my performance before I try to get the driveability, and shift points where I want it.

The transmission has better clutches, and all of the needed upgrades to beef it up a bit.

I realize that this is a daily driver, but it sucks to stand on the gas from a roll and it boils the tires until the fuel shut off hits.
I don't want to lean it out under boost and take out a head gasket.
