I see a lot of guys run the 17x9 95 Cobra wheels...these fit up front on a Fox without rubbing? What about a 1 1/2" dropped Fox with the Ford Cobra Disc 5 lug conversion?

Thanks in advance.

yup, as long as you don't have wider front tires. i believe mine are 245\45 and they are fine.

sorry for the crappy pic, but you get the point.

Most 17x9 Cobra R's, whether Ford or replica made, have a +24mm offset (5.98"backspacing) and the "Cobra Disc 5lug conversion" comes with longer '94+ axles so you will end up having the wheel stick out a butt hair too much (1/4").
The axles are 3/4" longer per side than the stock 4-lug axles.

A solution I've considered in doing the swap myself is machining about 1/4" of material off of the mounting surface of the wheel so it tucks better when mounted.
But of course you would want to inspect all clearances and issues with the wheel's spokes and calipers and such first before having someone machine off material.

When you run stock length axles with the +24mm wheel you end up having a wheel that looks a little too tucked in the rear (about 1/2") ...
It can be done, but is not ideal for most people and will usually result in you revisiting the issue again down the road.

Unfortunately it's either do it right the first time, or do it again.

Double unfortunate is the 6.42" bs wheels are no longer made by Ford, because Ford sucks. ;)

Thanks for the info!!!

Luke87GT...I'm still some months away rom needing them...but I'll check back with you when the time comes.
Ya let me know. I've been on and off about selling these rims

I have two sets of these M179's with tires and centercaps.

Been thinking about replacing them with 18x9/18x10 Fr500's or possibly non-Ford rims (Like Ruff Racing 278's or BBK RK Plasmas).

We'll see

Nope...looks like everyone stopped making them...sucks.

On pg 80 of the Oct 2006 5.0 Mustang magazine has a feature car with a bracket from North Racecars that retains the Fox offset with the longer cobra axles...can't wrap my brain around how that would work but...

As another option, doesn't anyone make 5 lug fox length axles I can use in place of the ones supplied in the M-2300 kit?

Also, (to confirm I understand correctly) to fit the 17x9s up front will I need the 95-96 spindles and 5.98" backspacing?

Thanks again.

You, 9dueceGT, and Luke87GT have all provided great info that helped me understand the different options and make a decision. I decided to buy Luke's M179s. I realize this will "marry me" to these wheels, but I'm ok with that. And if I ever change my mind I'm willing to buy new axles.

Thanks to all for the great info. As a newb on the forum (and someone who hasn't been around Mustangs for a long time) I really apreciate all your expertise and willingness to help.

Cheers!
