Buddy is giving me the motor out of his rear ended thunderbird, plan on getting it in my car and running and working the bugs out before I go and order parts like H/C/I for it.

The pistons have the one big valve relief in them though and I was wondering if Im going to have to switch them out in favor of a new cam TFS 1 or 2 Havnt decided which, to the 87+ mustang style pistons with the 4 reliefs or just aftermarket pistons in general if alot of fly cutting is needed.

Just a standard roller 302 like the 86's e6 heads, SO intake and cam but not the flat tops.

Lopo cast dished pistons. probably looks just like this:

after further research they are just the same pistons as the 86 mustangs so TFS heads should fit.

the motor can be made to HO spec with no problems with the e7 heads/intake and cam along with other misc things like TB, injectors, etc.

Just have to check PtV clearance like anything else if I decide to go with heads. I dont see why I would ditch the block to find another one just to run into the same problems later on possibly with PtV clearance an such.

Reason Im not upgrading any parts now is just to get everything in, find a wiring harness and plumb everything. since was a orig carb car.

not arguing with you and I def. dont know as I am not seeing the pistons you have but if there is a dish or reliefs they are not the same as the 86 HO pistons... the 86 high output's are completely flat no dish or reliefs (and are forged trw)
for some reason I have had 3 86 ho longblocks come into my life ?? dunno why wasn't seeking them really  but made good use of them :)

IS NOT a HO. type full flat top that has no "eyebrow reliefs"..

it IS however a low po with no reliefs....

valves only clear because the particular heads that were originally fitted / mated had the seats set in deeper from head gasket face.
the particular camshaft mattered too....

post # 11 is not entirely correct..
the photo piston is NOT a "full flat top"...
but these pistons can be used with the E-6 head....so long as cam is not too big at measured low lift duration.( stock)....

the piston CAN be cut for eyebrow reliefs.....the crown thickness is enough.

but as seen, the overall negative volume , due to the dish will result in lower compression than a true 1986 HO piston with reliefs then cut into them...
