Looking for a high performance (higher gpm flow for better cooling) 4.6 modular water pump (96-01) snout style.

besides stewartcomponents.com what other high performance pumps are out there that are non electric?

yea thats what im running as well

as far as belt driven is concerned i know of none

the stewart high performance pumps sacrifice less than 3hp and cool better than stock.

id rather have better cooling and be robbed 3hp

I would like to see this test. The stock new style Ford pump with the closed back vanes is as good as it gets IMHO. Plus remember these motors have a thermostat high pressure bypass so once there is a certain amount of pressure in the water in the motor much of the water pump output bypasses the thermostat right back to the radiator.

If you are having heating problems you should get a thicker radiator as the stock ones are pretty slim for weight reasons (weight of the water not the radiator).

how much more does your engine need to be cooled?
just adding a pump won't make it any better, you have to take into consideration the radiator, thermostat or not, what the coolant fan setting is and more?
you would be better off getting a larger radiator for @$300.00 than buying a aftermarket water pump

i guess either a cobra radiator (twice as thick as my stock 97 tbird one) and fan combo is in order or an electric water pump.

I believe i have air in my system or theres a restriction somewhere. it all started after i blew a plastic coolant t-fitting. i put in a new fitting and a week later steam spewed out of the radiator cap. Burped the air out of the system and has been overheating since.

Temps reach 220-228
mods are 180 stat
xcal2 set fan temps to 180 low 190 high
radiator 6 months old
hayden high performance tranny cooler
pi 04 explorer motor w/ 6000 miles
old tbird 178,000 water pump on new motor
new coolant
new motorcraft coolant overflow red cap

car never pinged and runs slightly rich

Should i jus throw in the 195 back in there and adjust the fan temps? i have a water pump with 3,000 miles on it so that will go on soon.

anything else im missing?

First check to see if you have the correct thermostat. There should be a spring loaded flat plate on the bottom that should touch the hole in the intake directly underneath it. If it doesn't touch then a bunch of the water is bypassing the motor all the time.

i think i might change the fan temps to like 185 low, 195 high, that is what i'm running. I didn't like having my fan come on right at the temp my thermostat just gets fully open. I give it a few degrees of latitude.

I run stock fan, stock radiator, 180* thermostat.

I run my fan all the time and I am not sure what thermostat I have but my car never runs hot. I know I have at least a 180 in it. Put some water wetter in your radiator it would help.

car was overheating due to NO fan turning on.

thanks for the replies anyways
