Little background: I have been running a 3 core brass replacment rad (modine or transpro is the brand) and until now the stock fan clutch setup with a 180 stat. The car (see combo in sig below) ran cool at highway speeds (infact under 170 degrees) and around 190ish in traffic - as soon as I put the a/c on though the car overheated - hit 235 and I had to shut it down. This has only happened since the weather has been over 80 degrees outside.
Today I decided to install a taurus fan (new afternmarket piece) from a 92-95 3.8L Taurus. A also decided to use the Flex-a-lite VSC controler as MACX has mentioned in so many threads. It works great - incredably easy install and fired right up.
Now my problem is that in order to hold 185-190 degrees the fans stay on 100% all the time. If I turn it down at all and allow the fan to cycle she imediatly starts to climb to 195-200 degrees (and this is tested at night in 70 degree weather). I've not had a chance to run the car at 200 degrees steady to see if it will maintain that with the fan cycling but I feel taht is a bit hot. With teh a/c on temps continue to climb to 210 and level out with the fans running at 100%.
So, I need advice! Do I not have enough radiator for this motor? The brass one I have It's about 6 months old and in spring when it was cooler the car ran OK with the a/c on with the stock clutch fan. I did find some debris in my overflow can when I mounted it to the taurus fan is it possibly the RAD is a pos and is comming apart inside or clogging?
Should I just get a aluminum radiator and see what happens or am I overlooking somthing?
Anyone?
