Hi. I just got my 02 mustang GT 2 days ago. I love this thing. I have a ? though. It has almost 300 miles on it now and seems to idle a little ruff. Not real bad but should it be smooth? Also the tach will move up and down just a hair. It did it when i drove it home with 37 miles on it and it still doing it at almost 300 miles. Is it becouse it still needs to be broken in or what? Also this thing sounds badass to me now since i had a 98 f-150 with a 4.2 before this. The first thing i want is a more agressive sounding exhaust. What do you all recommend.

Well if there is something wrong it will be fixed. I also got warranty up to 75,000 miles. Its not real bad thats why i asked if it was normal. If it doesnt stop by 1,500 miles(almost 300 on it now) then i'll take it in to get looked at. As for the flowmasters do i have to order them offline or are they sold at muffler shops around. Thanks.

If you have the air conditioning on or the defroster it'll do that. I don't know if my 01 GT did that without the a/c or defrost on or not. If is does it either way disconnect your negative battery cable for about 30 min and then reconnect it. It'll clear out the computer.

Thanks for the help. I'll do the battery thing tonight. Its not real bad its just that its brand new and i didnt think it should do this. It also has sputtered out a couple of times when being started then after a second it went right up to idle. Seems to run good on the road though. I havent laid into it yet but i will after i get about 1,000 miles. I cant wait to see how it runs. This is by far the fastest car ive had.

1/2 Bent---Congrats on the new car! :)

Do yourself a favor. Don't wait until 1000 miles before you "get into" it. Ask your dealer and/or read your manual for verification, but if it's like the 00 GT's, the computer is still learning how you want it to drive. You will want to do every kind of driving you can think of...stop and go, highway cruising with sustained high speed, hard accelerations, and hard stops. Everything. That's how you break them in over the next several hundred miles. I'm not saying to thrash it every time you get in it, but at the same time, don't be afraid to really romp on it several times! Your car will break in very nicely this way.

BTW, my tach/idle sometimes wobbles very slightly. I think this is normal, unless you're getting sputtering and/or surges. After you clear the computer (disconnect the battery), it should maybe improve. If not, you might have a problem, maybe with the MAF. (I don't think you can clear a MAF problem from the computer since it's an ongoing measuring/sampling device.)

They all have a variable idle RPM, unless you have a good tach (not the stock unit, it fine just not ultra critical like a 5 inch Autometer) you don't usually notice. It's not a big deal, we all live with it, it lets you know your driving a V8.
As far as exhaust goes, I asked the same thing a few months ago and got a ton of answers one of which was the same thing you got, Flowmaster Cat-Back with Off road H pipe. I somewhat listened and ordered the Flowmaster Cat-Back from summit (delivered to my door in 3 days for under $300).
I decided to vary it a bit and go for a popular item I had noticed, the "Bassani X-Pipe with Cats"!!!!!

It Sucked:barf:

Flows rock and I totally love the sound of them, but then I added the X and it went downhill rapidly.

I've since sold the Bassani (it comes off tomorrow) and tomorrow morning I'm ordering a Mac off road H-pipe and some PEP mile elims.
I've heard these cars b4 and I'm all about my car sounding like that:evil:
