5.8 liter tranny swap

hey guys i have a 83 crown victoria with a 351 windsor stock im going to be doing a full out rebuild with mainly edelbrock parts looking for somewhree around 300 350 rhp but it is an automatic overdrive and i would love to make it a 5 spd what tranny would i swap into there and is there even a tranny that can handle the weight of htat car i already know that the suspension is shot and will need to be fully replaced any tips ?

A t-5 out of a mustang should do just fine as long as you don't beat the hell out of it. My car has a stock t-5 and has been holding up great for a while now. Its all in how you drive the thing.

You're referring to the big hulky Crown Victoria LTDs, like taxi companies and most police agencies used most of the time, not the Foxbody based LTDs, correct? As for General Tech, you posted this in the ENGINE Tech forum which I moved this thread from. So, yes, you're in General Tech now.

If you have the big boy you'd be better off with a c6 or a Tremec 500 or 600 . Use a 3 spd od bellhousing from a truck and go with a hydraulic custom clutch setup or modify a mustang pedal and go cable clutch . The T5 probably will not take the weight of the car versus the power of the engine .

well at this point im eihter gonna go one way or anuther beacuse having a car like that is origonal but its just going to be problems with the weight and all that so i do it fully or take the motor out and drop it in somthing else but i dont know what ?i was told that the 351 w is a rare engin that is highly moddable and lots of people want it is this true the guy that told me this races alcholol drags and said he would pay me 3 grand for the engin

So a 94 cobra ecu shouldn't have an issue running a 351w.
Yes, it'll run. "Shouldn't have an issue" will depend on many other factors. If you'd like more answers you should create a new thread with detailed information about what you are trying to do and ask specific questions. You'll likely get more responses that way versus posting in an old transmission swap thread.
