So I just get my car back after getting my heads P&P. SHM Cams installed, Bullit intake installed, and Steeda Timing Adjuster put on. Well I have my car dynoed and i gain a whole 20HP and lose 3ftlbs of torque. now i dont know that much about cars but im thinking i should of gained more from this combo. granted my torque curve is alot flatter and the cams gave me a stronger top end. but shouldnt the gains of been higher. Im thinking i just need a dyno tune to program my computer properly. Anymore, have any advice they can give me. Keith

With the P&P, did they take anything out of the combustion chamber so as to lower compression? What's the timing adjuster set to? Even with the stock programming, I wouldn't expect you lose peak torque. Gains on the HP might be ok, but I would also think more is there. Check on the timing, get a professional tune or at least a chip setup for your mods, and you should be in much better shape. I'm not the cam expert for these DOHC or SOHC engines however, it may be expected to lose peak and just get a flatter curve and higher top end. Still, get a tune of some type...

That's the reality of the Bullitt intake. It gives you a flatter torque curve on a n/a engine. As for the cams, what grind? Other mods?
Did you dyno prior to the mods?

Im not sure ya the guy did when he ported and polished the heads, i will ask him on monday. The cams are SHM stick cams. I also have a K&N filter, bassani xpipe, steeda catback. well they orginally set my timing at 12 degrees and they guy said i lost horsepower on the dyno so he set it at 12 degrees for me to set myself and i havent gotten around to setting it yet. before the heads, cams, and intake i dynoed at 249hp and after i dynoed at 270hp. i was hoping for a lot higher number. im hoping its somethign a good dyno tune can take care of.

I would be extremely pissed if I gained 20 HP with all of the mods you had done. Would the gains be different for P&P HEADs & Cam work on a SOHC -vs- DOHC?

I'm sure the major expense, as far as parts are concerned, was the Bullitt intake. That's alot of money to spend to flatten your torque curve! But that's really all the Bullitt intake can offer on a n/a engine. That's not a bad thing! On the street, that's exactly what you want. Your other upgrades are probably the biggest contributors to your gains. Now, throw a blower on that mother, and that intake will get you 30-35 hp more than just the blower without the Bullitt setup.
Relax, and sit tight. You've made a good mod and you can go in any direction from here.
