Purchased a mustang with a holley mecahnical pump on it, and a holley 650 carb. My question is the fuel pressure is at like 10-lbs and it needs to be lower. How can I chnge the fuel pressure without going to an electric pump and regulator? Do they have some kind of release valve you can adjust? Thanks for any help.

you can buy a regulator for around 20 bucks and that will take care of your problem.you should use a regulator anyway even on a mechanical pump.

Get a Holley regulator. Check out Summit, Jeg's, etc. They all carry them. Like 82boy said, they are around $20.

12-501 is chrome (cost more $)
12-803 is the plain one

holley makes them about everyone has them summit, jeggs, ramchargers, local shopes you name it east to hook up the line going from the pump into the engine goes in the bottome of the regulator then you can either plug off one side of the regulator and run the other side to the carb or if you have a double pumper carb you can run a line from both side of the regulator to each bowl of the carb. the little screw ontop adjust the pressure. simple as that.

I do have another question. I have a fuel pressure gauge and it has been reading 10-12 lbs, I drove it to the store and back today on lunch break about 6 miles. By the time I got back my fuel pressure had dropped to around 3 lbs? WHy? THe gauge has about 7,000 miles on it. You wouldn't think it would be bad and it is reading the pressure but it is really low. Any suggestions? Thanks.
