I have a 351c in my '85 GT and i am concerned about the
stock wiring system.
The motor has just been rebuilt and i want to get some
feedback from those who have done this swap before
before I put it back in. (Wiring is not a strong point of mine.)

I have an MSD 6al box and MSD coil, and when i had it in before the tach would not operate off the box. (problem #1)

Every now and then the motor would not start when it was hot.(problem #2)

I would like to install a switch box for ignition, start button, electric, fan, and future mods. How easy is the installation of one of these?

Finally, what about a painless harness? Is it worth the effort?
Are they really all that painless for an application like this?

Any advice would be more than welcome. I would like this project to be a real reliable thunder maker. :D

Maybe some help

The tach in my '85 would operate to 2000 and drop to 0 anything above that until I installed the MSD tach adapter. Are you talking about thePainless switch panel or whole harness? I personally wouldn't go to the expense of changing the whole thing when you only need a few wires. Do some searching and see if you can find a factory wire diagram. I don't have a clue what happened to mine after all this time but it will be priceless to find the few wires you need. Lee

Yeah I don't think I want to rape my car like that.
At least until i decide to take the body off down the road.
I guess i will try that tach adapter, because i have heard from
more than one person that that is the best thing for it.
thanks for your advice.

No i haven't looked inside.
Now just to be clear, I run a 6AL with the rev limiter; is this
just as inferior in your opinion?
I have heard nothing but good things about the 6AL.

I have nothing bad to say about MSD

I got 8 years out of my first one before it quit running in a rain storm one time. I had it mounted upside down behind the rh headlight and it filled with water and shorted out. Ended draining about a pint of water out of it. I sealed the seam on the new one and stuck it on. I have heard of people having occasional trouble but I'm not one of them. My .02, Lee.
