Well, since the heads on the stock 96-98's don't flow air too well, what's wrong with just adding more boost to compensate for the crappy heads? I know one guy on here is doing it with a turbo so why don't people do this with the centrifugal blowers?

Does anyone have any info or seen this first hand?

Thanks

Well I only know alittle bit, and what I know I learned from here. From what I have read, anything over 8lbs of boost on a non-forged internal engine, is playing with fire. Just a matter of time before it blows.

But if it's not getting past the heads? Where's the worry? Or is it the exhaust side that's the problem? I sort of forgot about that. I guess if the boost has nowhere to go once it's inside the chamber..... BOOM!

Is this about right? Does anyone else have an opinion?

if you have a good fuel system and a good tune and a more free flowing exhaust you can run a max of 10 lbs !

progresr,
I ran 10 psi of non-intercooled boost with those stock heads. Actually with the AFM powerpipe, I would see anywhere from 10-11.5/12 psi on stock heads :) Just ensure you have enough fuel pressure and the car is tuned properly and go have fun. My problems all come after the PI headswap.

One of the big problems with high boost is exsessive intake charge temps leading to detonation. You must find a way to keep the temps in check to avoid grenading your engine. You could keep your boost at say 8# and add a 50 shot of laughing gas to keep the temps low and liven things up a lot:evil:

Not exactly true. I ran 16psi on a stock motor, and raced it for 2 years before it came apart.

Get some longtubes and that will satisfy your craving for a little while at least. Longtubes will give you a 20-30 rwhp gain on a s/c stang.

After you get tired of that and your SOTP meter is worn out, give yourself 2 more pounds of boost for another 20 rwhp. Make sure you don't go over 10 lbs. Best stay at 8. If it's your toy and not our only car....I would be putting down about 400 lbs of boost hahaha!
