I am trying to make a decision about which heads to get , and I was just wondering if there were really any big differences in the heads beside price. I will be using the stock cam for now, because of the lack of money.
I'm by no means an expert, i had to make this decision a while ago and went with the AFR heads after talking to ED Curtis, who also did my cam. I believe the AFR flows better than the Edelbrock with a smaller intake valve, which promotes low end torque. One advantage of the Edelbrock heads is that they come heli-coiled so they are harder to strip out. You can get around this by being careful and/or using studs where ever possible.
Hope this helps, I would give Ed Curtis a call and ask him what he thinks, I believe he carries both types.
