I don't usually get on the forums and bash anyones product but this one takes the cake.

I installed a king cobra clutch kit the other day and after the first drive was immediately disappointed with it. Its about 250% stiffer than stock. I got over that eventually, the bad came out of it last night after datalogging a run or two.

After playing around with my timing maps on my stock 98 cobra I decided to go test it. 1-2 shift perfect, 2-3 shift perfect, 3-4 BOOM clank clank clank...

Limped it to the house and pulled the tranny. The clutch disc completely blew apart, the thin metal that links to the disc hub to the organic material ripped apart seperating the organic material from the clutch disk hub. I had to mic the metal.... .031"

Looking over the datalog I was running 106 mph when this happened, pretty scary considering what could have happened. These clutches are not safe even for a bone stock 300 hp cobra. Looking over it I noticed it doesn't say "valeo" on it like the old ones did....the new king cobras are junk.

The old ones made by Valeo were great, I had two of them myself and thats why I bought this one. These new "king cobra" clutches are definitely not the same as the old ones made by valeo. Just a heads up, make sure if you buy a king cobra clutch its an old one.

ya its funny i did the same in my 98 cobra with bolts and DRs on the street. 1-2 shift was fine the 2-3 shift i thought i blew the motor. limped it home and pulled the trans.i snapped at least 3 fingers off the pressure plate. i bought a Center Force DF clutch with a Fidanza aluminum flywheel and that grabbed like all hell with out crazy pedal effort.
