My friend wants to put Trick Flow TW's on his stock shortblock 86 Mustang with it's flat top pistons.

From his understanding they will fit without notching the pistons due to the revised valve locations of the TW's design. However he wants to use 1.7 rockers on the stock cam which will bring the lift up to .472" and still not notch which I don't think will work as I don't think there's enough room for it to fit. Anybody here done it who can offer their opinion?

with those heads you will be able to run up to around .542 lift, stock reliefs with those heads do nothing. I wouldn't run anything over .500 to stay safe. your friend could also run gt40(not Ps) with his stock cam on that motor.

TWs will fit. 1.7 rockers won't make any difference. Max lift doesn't have anything to do with piston to valve clearance.
