Ran a best of 11.12 at about 122 on in last trip to the drag strip in Bakersfield CA on motor and Cali 91 octane fuel. Shifted from 7-7,500 rpm it’s whole life. Plenty of street miles and show off burnouts off the 8,200 rpm pill in the old school MSD 6al.

Tell me what you see. I personally don’t hate what I see nor the shade tree goofball garage tinkerer who slapped it together.

I'm far from an expert, but looks pretty good to me as well.
The only thing I see is the groove in the #1 bearing, but the crank looks fine. Wonder if one of the oil chamfer holes had a burr on it.

Interested to see the rest of the cylinders.

lowers get more of a beating and trash than uppers 'most' of the time.. looks like he could throw it back together and go have fun..

one thing i noticed and hate (only personal opinion) is that the 289 piston skirts appear to be stock.. i hate the long skit on a piston.. a good aftermarket piston would fit nicely in there..

your used motor looks WAY better than the 289 i got that was supposedly fresh and never ran! lol

crank may need a little polish.. has it been turned yet?

The crank is 20 20. I doubt a light polish would cause an issue.

Good eye. The number one main bearing has a nice little groove in it. Piece of trash must have gone through. Chamfer on crank is fine.

Regular old probe SRS twisted wedge and standard valve relief 302 piston. The pistons going into the new engine are a little more fancy pants. Having a modern metric ring set will be a decent benefit too I imagine.
