I'm putting my 5.4 back together finally and I need help on setting the timing chains. According to the Haynes manual, the chain is supposed to have two markings. One to line up with the crankshaft cog, the other to line up with the camshaft cog. I just opened up the new chains and it doesn’t look like that. I have one brass colored link on one end of the chain. Then, I have two brass links linked together at the other end. How is this supposed to go? Two links = crank, single link = cam? Or vice a versa?

The one single link goes on the cam mark, and the end with 2 goes on each side of the mark on the crank..

On the 4.6 their is an even #"58" of links so u only have 2 colored ones, one on each end..

one a 5.4 their is an odd # "61"of links so u have 2 colored links on one end and 1 colored link on the other..

Excellent. Thanks for the info. I'll have to keep this all in mind when I put my 4.6 together after I'm done with this 5.4. Thanks again.
