The UPR K-member install was more chaotic than I expected. In this video, I cover the problems I encountered and the solutions I found while installing the OEM A-arms with OEM rubber bushings, the OEM A-arms with poly bushings, the OEM steering rack, stock-style springs, and the OEM sway bar.

I also reveal how much weight the UPR K-member and spring perches took off of Apocalypso.

What a nightmare. May I ask why you didn't install tubular a-arms and coilovers?

I haven't finalized the front suspension mods yet. That gave me an opportunity to show people how well the OEM parts fit with the UPR K-member. There will be many more front suspension mods made to this car in the future.

I want to make mods I haven't made before. The focus will be on adjustability and weight reduction. It's also important to me that the mods can be replicated by others. Some options create new issues (flaring fenders, camber limits, tire width limits, etc.). I want to make sure everything will work together the way I need it to. And because no two Fox Body Mustangs are the same, it will take some figuring and finessing to come up with the right formula.

Hey Warhorse it's been a minute and tried finding some of your threads. You have helped me tremendously and still point people in you/Corral's direction for input. SVO was the very first Pony I've driven and used to frown upon people that put them down as far as performers, which they are with great mpg as an added bonus. The power to weight is welcomed and closer to 50/50 (my new setup too) weight distribution. They are nimble and flat out fun. What gearing you planning on? I will read more as you could of mentioned it.

I know it's a matter of time before I see one competing in the Optima series. I know they won't be in my GT class running against ZL1's, GT350's, or my car, but those are one of the best handling stock Pony's I've driven and. . with stock 225 tires. Could be less. By the way as far as reducing some suspension weight, (it may) my 8" coil overs with billet 2" spring spacers work out great so far. It made more tire clearance and I will weigh a 8" vs 10" spring as the spring spacers weigh little. The MM black (RA2) race struts with 400# springs in front have been holding up as so has the same setup in rear w/275# springs.

Sorry been busy with new house and built a natural rock waterfall jacuzzi for my back and really came out nice. Car is getting better working out all the bugs. Will talk more and I don't intend to be selfish talking about my 01Boss302 but unless I'm too late for you, I still have my Bilstein/H&R setup and I'm thinking of letting it go into some good hands. Here is a pic or two of project and now have time to keep it up. I have to wait as Cosmi Racing discontinued wheels and was stuck with two 18x10 having to settle on two 18x9 for front (1 used) being impossible to find. New design will be lighter/stronger w/more offsets. I still have a set goal of tire size, not 305's but a tad smaller. Building my way up with more seat time.

Love the new addition to the stable and always enjoyed the hatchback too. I tried to message/email you as well but was too noob to figure out how but my friend still has his SVO, one I drove and he might have extra parts if you need. Thought I would try and help =)

It's good to hear from you. And your car looks great! I'm glad it's turning out the way you had hoped. The SVO Mustangs are awesome cars, but my new pony is actually a naturally aspirated 2.3L. I want to prove that any Mustang can be a competitive autocross car, so I'm giving myself a real challenge with this build. When it's done, it'll go up against some tough competition, but it should be a blast to drive! I've got a lot of lightweight suspension mods in mind for this car as I try to get it down to 2,500 lbs.

My 1993 2.3L Mustang autocross car has already lost 275.7 lbs. I’m getting closer to my goal of taking 500 lbs. out of Apocalypso. Swapping the heavy OEM steel driveshaft for a Ford Performance aluminum driveshaft will shed a few more pounds and improve this pony’s performance out on course.

This video covers the benefits of installing an aluminum driveshaft, provides some install tips & reveals how much weight the aluminum driveshaft took out of Apocalypso.

Looks like a cool project. I raced a 2.3 mustang some in the Lemons series and did reasonably well. That car was stripped of everything non-essential, it was a hatch and we just removed it completely (it was incredibly heavy). I have a 2.3 stock motor out of a 92 LX that you are welcome to if you want it.

One of the best parts of this project has been hearing from people who've owned/raced 2.3L Mustangs. The rules for the classes I'm considering allow me to strip out a lot of stuff. I can't remove the hatch, but I can replace the rear glass with Lexan or an equivalent material. I'm definitely considering that, especially since the rear suspension mods will be adding weight to the back of the car. Thank you for offering me your engine, but I actually got another '93 2.3L engine a few weeks ago so I can learn more about engines in general and have some spare parts.

I’ve pulled 286.8 lbs. out of my 1993 2.3L Mustang autocross car. Reaching my goal of 500 lbs. requires me to look for every opportunity to reduce weight.

I’m upgrading my solid rear axle suspension with Steeda aluminum upper & lower control arms.

This video covers the problems I had with the entry-level rear upper & lower control arms that were on Apocalypso, details the benefits of using quality rear upper & lower control arms, provides some install tips, and reveals how much weight I saved by switching to the Steeda aluminum rear control arms.
