How often are you soposed to change the trans fluid and how often for the rear differential (8.8 Trac lok)? My trasmission has synthetic mercon in it and has been in there for 12,500 miles. I bought the car last september and have only put 3,000 miles on the car. The car has 69,000 original miles.

Ford recommends changing the differential fluid at 100,000 miles or anytime the car is driven through flood waters. From a practical standpoint, I change the diff gear lube at whatever mileage I pick up a used car. Then I at least have a maintainence starting point. I then usually change it every 50,000 miles. Don't forget to add a little bottle of friction modifier from Ford if you have a traction lock differential.

As for the Mercon in the T5, I go 50K miles there also, or whenever I pull the trans to change the clutch.

In all honesty, even changing fluid at 50K is probably more often than necessary.
